Three days ago someone comes stumbling in, in the middle of the day during hunting season (quite unusual) and asks for some help.

Seems they did the unspeakable, uggggg! I cringe just thinking about it.

They accidently poked a stick in their eye!

Now mind you, they are already so hard of hearing it isn't funny. I am trying to help and feeling sorry for them, but I had to yell most of my conversation to them, which didn't make for much bedside manner.

Of course, suggesting they go elsewhere for PROFESSIONAL help for the stick in the eye accident wouldn't fly. No matter what I said they wouldn't go to the ER or the docs office.

So I had to help or they wouldn't get help. That was the deal. I even threatened loss of sight, infection, intense pain, etc.. and they wouldn't budge.

So I did my best, with no guarantee attached.

Today the same person came in mid-day again... right in the midst of hunting again (?)... and when I went down to see what they wanted, there was blood all over them.

Seems while reconstructing an old goose blind they ripped out a plywood wall and he accidently got some of the metal hardware near the hinges stuck in the palm of his hand.

Again, I had to yell at them to do this and do that while I bandaged them up because they can't hear well, so the "sympathy" for them was kind of lost in the translation.

Of course suggesting going to the ER or docs office was again out of the question, but I did try! I even said anyone that gets a deep puncture wound with a rusty nail needs a tetnus shot.

They replied, "It wasn't a rusty nail, it was a rusty screw."

And once bandaged and fed, they were back out hunting again.

I just wrote a BIG note on a poster board and left it by the front door which states...

If you come here for medical help again, just turn your truck around and leave. Our medical facility for the Blind, Deaf and DUMB is closed!
