I have late stage neuro lyme...feel as though I'm losing brain cells daily. Has anyone had successful treatment with Dr.H? I've been sick for 7 years.....just diagnosed 6 mos ago. I'm very drug sensitive.

Yes lyza, many. He's tops. He's not my dr. though.

Did you post in "Seeking a Doctor"?

You could also do a SEARCH -at the top of the page, under <post a poll>.

Enter "Dr H." and all previous discussions will come up.

Others will come along to answer this.

Good luck to you, carly.

If you're very drug sensitive, he might not be right for you, because I know he uses lots of drugs at once.

You might want to start a discussion asking for recommendations of LLMD's who understand how to proceed with patients sensitive to drugs.

You could also ask for advice on an LLMD who is good at tailoring protocols to each patient.

I am a past patient of Dr. H. I only left his practice because we moved away from the North East.

Dr. H. is tops. Yes. I agree.

It is worth trying him. I would go back to him in a heart beat, and I am VERY drug sensitive. That is my greatest barrier to getting better.

No good llmd is going to shove drugs down your throat. Good ones listen, try to help, and he is one of those.

Best of luck and my heart goes out to your battle.

Mary

I saw Dr. H but he wasn't for me. My first visit was very expensive- didn't take my insurance, I only saw the doctor for 2 minutes, most time was with the PA, and they wanted me to purchase a ton of supplements.

That being said, I am in the area and I know many, many people who acheived wellness w/ Dr. H.

I would recommend his PA, the woman, but I'm not a fan of Dr. H lately. So yeah, I would see her. You do have to be clear about what you will and won't take.

Just say "Hey, I have only this much money per month, so give me the fundamentals for now until I can manage more."

And "I can only do these medications, otherwise my condition will worsen and damage me, so I can not use aggressive therapy immediately."

If you say what you need and what you don't want -- you'll also need to accept the consequences. Those consequences are that it will take longer to get onto heavier protocols. If it takes longer, so be it -- you have to do what is best for your body and what you can tolerate.

If I was absolutely broke and couldn't afford ongoing costs -- but could afford initial costs of about 1K, I would try alternative methods.

If you have Medicare, the office takes that and costs are significantly reduced -- but you still need the supplements. You can come off them as you begin to realize which work and which don't. You will find some are important. For many the B12 shots seem to help, as well as Glutathione. Probiotics do make an impact as well and are a must. Those will cost you a bit, so it may be those are the fundamental aspect of your treatment aside from herbal detox/antibiotics and synthetic antibiotics (drugs).

Pick up Insights Into Lyme Disease, so that you have a good understanding in advance of what your main options are. It's a book. Make sure to have a list of questions. Your first appointment costs 950 dollars for a reason -- you can spend 4-6 hours with them if you prepare. They claim the 950 is only for 2, but the PA -- who is as smart as Dr. H believe it or not -- she will spend as much time as you need (within reason).

She is aggressive, disorganized, and ADDish, but she's brilliant, compassionate, and will listen as long as you assert yourself as an equal in your healing process.

This is just my personal opinion and what I've observed. I've seen all 3. If you need someone who goes slower and is gentle, the male PA is best. If you need a very heavily aggressive individual who is organized, systematic, but somewhat inflexible then Dr. H is for you. Each one has strengths and weaknesses from my observation, but each is capable of getting most of their patients well from what I've learned from other patients.

Unfortunately I have not gotten well, and I've been there a year. My case is immensely complicated and I've been ill since I was very small. I'm now 31, so it's understandable how hard it is. I'm also very intimidated by the IV, which likely impairs my ability to get well. My lack of effort on the IV though is justified. I would very likely relapse even if I improved and I'm just not interested in keeping an IV port or PICC (or anything) in my arm long term. I had sepsis once already from long term PICC in the past.

For others, IV is magic and necessary.

I have not seen the female PA but I can agree with MB's assessment of the the other two.

Once you get established you will likely see one PA or the other.

You must request to see Dr. H ahead of time and it would be reasonable to see him every third visit. You might have a harder time seeing him every visit.

BTW... I am doing very well just a few loose ends to work on. feeling 80%. Better than 40%.
