Any good ideas on prevention of tick bites? we have free range chickens which helps alot, but they are still there. i thought after the nice cold winter we would have less, but my daughter came in yesterday with one on her. thankfully it was just crawling and not attached. i also make them take a garlic pill a day.

Everyone thinks all ticks are eliminated in winter. No true. They are smart enough to take cover.
They bury themselves in the bark of trees, whatever they have to do to survive the winter. Really this winter was good for them. They had plenty of snow to help ward off the cold winter. It's my bet that ticks will be super heavy this spring.
They have come out knowing they must have a blood meal ASAP.

I wish I knew what helps with keeping them away. I'm a tick magnet. My husband can carry them home from the golf course and they don't like him, so at night they find me. They love my vibration????

1.diatmacious earth (sp),,organic
2. orange citrus products
3.Tempo bug spray (made from flowers)
4. gueania hens
5. 20 mule team borax (made from #1 above)
6.Being between two bricks slammed together
7. deet
8. permethin(sp)

Now if I could lay in a tub with all ingredients listed above over me, with gueania hens surrounding my tub, and two large bricks ready to attack.....I might, just might be able to keep the ticks away.

I'm dreading when the ticks are out full force. I've already been checking the kids and myself about 50 million times a day any time we've been outside.
I'd LOVE to get some guinea hens and think I probably will eventually. I want to do it right though and build them a nice enclosure, etc.
Until then, I'll stay in our fenced in area for the most part, wear ugly white socks pulled up over my pants, and freakishly check everyone in the house, especially if they go beyond the fenced area...the danger zone. *shudder*
