I am a nursing student at a county college and since I have problems concentrating I contacted the medical disability office. They stated that I could only get accommodations in the beginning of the semester...I am currently taking arthritis medication along with antibiotics and there are nights that I don't sleep at all.. The nursing curriculum is very difficult...Does this make sense that I can only get accommodations if I had the paperwork filled out in the beginning of the semeseter?

- No, it does not seem right. Did you tell them about the lyme? If so, that could be why they are giving you a hard time. When at all possible, stick to the symptoms or vague names for anyone other than your doctor.
You first might need to read the fine-print for your college's "medical disability office" and have that ready for the attorney. Did that office SHOW you just where it states that?
Even if it does state it, it may not be legal.
Contact an attorney who works with the ADA - American Disability Act (ADA). Although that is for employees, they would still be the best, I think, to guide you in this field.
If you have a law school around they may offer some counsel at very low fee.
Your state Bar Association, too, can direct you to a few attorneys who may have sliding fee schedules. They may even have some sort of short answer feature allowed just by a phone call.

In the meantime, see if the college has tutors for others or if there is retired nurse's association in your area. Maybe someone would love to help with tutoring, etc.
Your local lyme support group may know of someone (or a few people). It'd be great if you could get a team of supporters. (I am a dreamer, I know.)
The arthritis medication you are taking - not a steroid, I hope?
