i tried a shaklee product this week and really liked it.
unfortunately my contact would not order it for me so i came home and got on the net and found it.
then i thought, "why am doing this? i should ask the lyme board and maybe help somebody else too"
so i got on here and viola!! somebody is selling shaklee and i ordered some stuff from her.
ok, i'm paying postage and what all, but i would rather get it from somebody on here than ordering from a company and strangers.
so please if you use products like shaklee, amway, whatever, don't forget to ask for somebody on here if they do it.
it would help them out and help you at the same time.
let's support each other in any way we can.

That's a nice thought. My Mom sold Shaklee in the 70's. I love that stuff.
Maybe there should be an area where people can post their web-sites.
I don't know if that would be against the rules.

You know what, I think that's a great idea.
I mean, this is a community of Lymies. And, communities should be able to help and give/trade/sell each other products that benefit our position.
But, I understand that may be difficult to regulate and other problems.
Seems like a good idea though.
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
dang, sorry ya'll. this was supposed to be in general, so if somebody knows how to move it, please do so.
well i think it probably is against the rules, but hey, if somebody does need something, like i did, they can post, and then get private emails, like the wonderful lady who responded.
hmm, couldn't we have just a separate section for people needing stuff. that way the people that do sell say avon, or amway, or anything else could privately respond.
anyway, just an idea.
and i ended up ordering some additional stuff too.

Lymenet won't let us tell what items we sell... can't even put our websites in our profile.
Wish they would. I could help a lot of people! I'm into something new and it's awesome!

On LymeFriends we have a group called "Classifieds" for exactly this reason; so our Lyme Friends can tout their wares and we can help one another. Feel free to join and post your Etsy store, pics of your crafts, your Shaklee or whatever....
I'd much rather help out another Lymie than buy from a stranger!
Dying to know what you are into Lymetoo...I hope you join Classifieds and tell us! The more people that join the group the more active it will become, too....I love all the Lyme Awareness jewelry people sell in there!
And we have a Mary Kay specialist!

Closing this thread in Medical and moving to General Support.
I will check the rules and see what is allowed.
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
thank you for moving it. i didn't know how.
surely i think just saying "i sell such and such" and then having anybody send a private mail would be ok, wouldn't it?
that way it's not on the board and all and it's between the two individuals. or like i did, say you want someone to contact you regarding such a product.
it just seems a shame that so many need the additional income and this would really help them out.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
Okay, this is in the Lymenet Terms of Use:
"4. Users shall not post or transmit through the LymeNet System any material which..." "...or which, without LymeNet's express prior approval, contains advertising or any solicitation with respect to products or services."
So officially, it seems as though any kind of solicitation, whether or not you give a website link, is prohibited.
I will try to find out more, and see what the final verdict is.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
Update:
This is also in the Lymenet Terms of Use:
" Users shall not use the LymeNet System to advertise or perform any commercial solicitation."
Sorry, but it's not appropriate for members to advertise what they sell in any way. I doubt we will delete a post if what you sell comes up as part of a typical conversation, but people making a list of who sells what would violate the Terms of Use.
Thanks for understanding.
On a personal note, I would think you could check out Lyme Friends for this purpose. Sorry, Randi. Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
umm, got question tho.
if i posted i was looking for a certain product, say oh i don't know, let's use avon or amyway or something.
could i post a question saying i need help getting a product, can somebody contact me privately.
would that be ok?
i'm not being difficult, i just want to make sure i understand.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
My first instinct is that that is a good idea, however, it still would not be allowed.
In my last post, it says (from the Lymenet Terms of Use):
"Users shall not use the LymeNet System to advertise or perform any commercial solicitation."
So private messages would be considered part of the Lymenet system, since they are over Lymenet.
I wonder if you expressed your need for a product, posted your email (that doesn't include your real name) and asked that someone email you, instead of PMing, if that would be legal. Don't get your hopes up (sorry!), but I can try to look into that.
The question would be if that falls under "performing" solicitation.
I will look into it.
You aren't being difficult...feel free to ask as many questions as you want!
I am trying to be fair, but also, it needs to stay within the Terms of Use, and keep in mind the intent behind the Terms of Use, etc.

Tracy... I'm trying to get onto Lymefriends... I was signed up... asked for my password and am still waiting for it to hit my mailbox.
I have such a hard time navigating that site... hope I can find classifieds!! If not, I'll email you.

<<<<< Randibear,sunnydays and allwho where asking...>>>>>,
It is good to have this clarified...I had wondered a couple times what was or wasn't considered proper as well.
A couple sites I used to be on...had 'product endorsements', where a person tried various products, and said if it was worth the money, helpful, did or didn't work and so on...
Ex.-- So and so tried...'jello pudding sugarless', didn't like the texture or something, but Xyz tried the 'pudding lite' and found it much tastier,w/ out odd texture...
Not sure if that is considered soliciting for sales. And likes and dislikes of products, is/are different yet again, from asking if anyone sells a particular type of product...
I know the moderators try very hard to keep LymeNet user friendly and still follow the rules!!!
I'm just grateful that LymeNet and other similar groups are available to help us!!!
Silverwolfi thinking and wondering now...

arrgh, this is so confusing.
it's bad enough having lyme but i think i understand.
so let's see.
if i say i want a detergent that say joe blow makes. can i ask somebody to pm me and then give them my private email address.
would that work?
so in other words, we can't sell on here but can we give our our private emails and then get it from lyme people on this board who contact us?
i'm stirring the water up aren't i? and i'm still confused!!

I sell scholarly & textbooks. It's nothing to do with Lyme. I think it's nice that you are thinking of people here in that way.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
My suggestion was: say you want to buy Mary Kay. So you would start a post saying, "I am looking to buy Mary Kay. Please email me at [email protected] if you sell it."
This way, the seller would not even have to PM you over Lymenet to say, "hi, I sell Mary Kay.", which is bordering on, if not actually, violating the Lymenet Terms of Use, since PM's are still part of the Lymenet "System." (and in the Terms of Use it says you can't use "the Lymenet System" for solicitation)
HOWEVER, I am not even sure if my suggestion is allowed....I am in the process of looking into it, so you may have to wait a couple days for an answer, as the mods/admins talk about it.
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
thank you all so much for your help.
i've always been curious about this and i certainly don't want anyone to get into trouble.
i'm not sure about posting our real email address on the board because then we could get tons of unwanted stuff, see?
oh and another thing, my email has my real name and we're not allowed to post real names, so i'd be screwed again, huh?

randi,
It is very easy to set up a free Yahoo email account. There are other free ones as well, but Yahoo is the one I have used.

- Why not just post in "Off Topic" - looking for someone who sells [this or that] who lives in your area (saves postage and fuel) - and ask them to PM you. That seems simple. No unsolicited PM advances - but the person looking for something specific can just ask. Off Topic seems a good place for that, once in a while.
-------------
You can post your real name if you want. It's safer to do so in a PM but it's still not totally safe as people are not always who they say they are. Every day, right here at LymeNet, the moderators turn away many who have signed on solely for the purpose of selling all sorts of things, mostly viagra. Still, scammers visit all sites.
We are not in a closed room here, it is open to the world. While you many find someone very kind, good and honest it's just important to know that others are lurking about the web.
If you think of giving your debit or credit card number to someone selling something here, it might first be best to check some registration place for their company to be sure they are an authorized seller. Then, maybe you can go through their company and they get credit for the sale without having your credit card number at risk.
If they are self-employed, they should still have some sort of business license or "dba" (doing business as) confirmation.
A PayPal account offers certain protections regarding payment options.
It's not that it is not allowed to post your real name here but it can set you up for serious identity theft and other issues about the world (and insurance scouts) knowing you have lyme. This is especially true if someone's name and location are visible. It's easy to look up in Dex Search and find addresses and phone numbers. That's an identity risk.
If you write here that you'll be out of town or on your way to see this or that doctor - or on a cruise - during certain dates, it need not be genius who connects the dots and has a free shopping trip at your home while you are gone. This has happened for those posting vacations on Facebook.
In addition to insurance companies and prospective employers doing searching on patients and prospective or current employees, so do the people at the disability determination offices. Recently, a woman was denied disability benefits for posting on a social networking site a photo of her on vacation. It looked like she was having too good a time to be disabled and she lost her case. She was simply smiling but it was determined that if she could go on a vacation, she could work.
Back to using an email with your name in it, your email address could be lifted and used by others. Mine was recently lifted, somehow and everyone in my email address book got several emails sent from others - looking like I sent them - but I did not. My name was in that email so now it's out there floating around - as part of at least 20 different marketing scams. -

I don't think it would be a problem to post in off topic saying you are searching for someone selling such and such a product.
However, you may not post that you sell such a product. As mentioned, use email. I set up a "Lymenet only" email address, you can do the same if you don't want to give out your "real" email address.
You may talk about products you like just so long as you have no commercial affiliation with that product.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
And it seems that stating what product you are looking for and asking that someone PM you with their info over Lymenet, for the purposes of buying/selling, will be tolerated. If that changes, I will report here.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
So if someone asks ME about a product or service... I can reply in the PM? I've always been afraid to do that!
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
thank ya'll so much.
i know that there must be some of use who would like to buy from people who sell certain products.
heaven knows, anything i can do to help, i will, and if it means paying extra postage or waiting a couple of weeks to get something, i will.
i have been blessed that i am not as will as some, so i feel i must help out when i can.
Posted by sunnydays (Member # 25310) on :
Lymetoo,
What Six and I are saying is that if someone is looking for a product you sell, you can PM them letting them know that you sell the product, and then you can give them another way to contact you if they want more info.
So you can basically just let someone know that you sell it, but anything else (like describing the benefits of the product) would be crossing the line of the Terms of Use, because that becomes soliciting.
So I would say you can respond to PM's you get on Lymenet, but you should limit it to only stating that you sell the product, and give them your email so they can contact you for any other info, or ask if they would like you to contact them, etc.
Six, do you have anything else to add?
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
That's what I've been doing. Thanks! ( giving the email address thru PM )
Posted by sixgoofykids (Member # 11141) on :
Yes, I think that is fine. If someone asks you .... the idea is to not use Lymenet for marketing. No one can start PMing people and trying to sell their products. That is not allowed.
If someone posts a message looking for someone who sells such and such, that's not a problem. Nor is it a problem to answer them.
When in doubt. Ask!!

I'd much rather help out another Lymie than buy from a stranger!
I have a business and stay quite busy but I read a post of someone suffering and have product that might provide some relief and save money, it's hard not to want to mention it to fellow lymies.
On the other hand, I find on many threads on this site many, many other website references to commercial endeavors for parasite herbs, foreign clinics, supplements, etc. on this site.
I don't understand why it's ok to reference for instance, "humaworm" on a thread about parasites but not my store website in a thread relevant to a product we provide.
But I don't understand a lot of things. For instance, we would consider buy web ads to help support this site but it looks like the only commercial ads here are for amazon.
Again like many of you that have posted here, I'm not trying to stir anything; just don't understand.

Everyone's rules are different....things are able to be a little looser over at LymeFriends. It's a closed community; it is not visible to anyone but the members, and you have to be approved to join.
That doesn't mean that we can ensure we know who everyone is; we can't....but we aren't as open to public scrutiny nor do we have as much traffic as Lymenet does, so we can afford to be more laid back.

Thanks! I just signed up..mb I was signed up under Christian lymies but not the main site. This site is a lot like fb but more private hopefully. Very nice. I'd like to network with other lymies and support each other. This looks like just the ticket!
Anyhoo, I went to the classifieds and found the coolest art work I'm going to get tomorrow. As an artist, I'm a little picky but just love these beautiful collages.
So double thanks!! Posted by sixgoofykids (Member # 11141) on :
Lonedove, we don't want Lymenet to become a marketplace. It's so easy for it to happen. People can say they've tried something and liked it .... and can even give a link to where they bought it, but cannot market products they sell themselves. So, the makers of Humaworm cannot come in here and try to get everyone to buy Humaworm.
You have no idea how much spam we remove from this website, and it would get even worse if we allowed marketing here. Not to mention, then we would have no grounds to remove spam. As it is, we don't allow marketing, so spam breaks the rules and can be removed.
As far as why advertising is not on this site, that is up to the board owners. While I would choose to have Google ads, they have chosen not to.

I think it was on this site that someone recommended a dry brush web site that worked really well.
