i had to stop the nutrisystem because of severe constipation which aggravated my diverticulitis. and besides it was expensive and i have to pay that off!!

i am thinking about weight watchers but still that's more money. i wish i could just buy the materials and do it myself, but i can't find them anywhere and i don't do ebay.

what is the best way to loose weight besides the lyme diet? i have to cook for mike and all, and he does like eating out, which i have to work around, and we travel a great deal.

anybody do weight watchers?

and how does being overweight affect the lyme? i know it's hard on the joints.

i've lost about 14 pounds but am slowly gaining it back. that's the problem with nutrisystem. as soon as you start eating regular food and not theirs, bam!! the weight comes back on.

I am not overweight, but I can drop weight quickly by eating protein and vegetables.. basically low carb...but not to the extreme.

Eat healthy and stay full by eating plenty of vegetables.

randibear...i did nutrisystem a few yearss ago.....worked for me..lost 45 pounds.....then my gallbladder gave in.........which is when i found out rapid weight loss....or diets that do not generate the need for bile breakdown make the gallbladder sludgy...hence gallstones.......i found out the hard way.......had my gallbladder out and now i have the weight back plus more..........its frustrating but a slow and steady is better........I am very overweight too so I fully understand how frustrating it is...........

My sister lost 100 pounds on weight watchers! It took her a little under a year and she's kept it off for over a year now.

She did not join weight watchers officially. She gathered all the information online. And had a friend buy her a point's calculator.

Being young and single she likes to eat out with friends. She continued these activities while on weight watchers and successfully lost the weight.

She learned to make better food choices. Most restaurants will post their menus and nutrition information online. She decides what she wants to eat before going out. Then figures out the points in a meal by reading the nutrition information.

Over the past couple months she has started to cook more for herself and her boyfriend. Again, she figures out the points from the recipes.

You quickly learn how many points are in a serving of your favorite foods so that makes it easier. She used to write on her cereal boxes and stuff.

It's nice because you can still eat what you want. You just learn proper portions and balance.

Randibear, you could join for a month online or at one of the facilities. That way you can gather all the materials you need, get assistance if you have trouble understanding anything, and get started properly. Then continue on your own for free.

One other thing, my sister did not exercise during the weight watchers diet. She wanted too but didn't have time. She's trying to start making that a habit now to help keep the weight off permanently.

sammy... my sister-in-law goes on and off weight watchers as needed. I agree that you can do it yourself with a point calculator and a little guidance.

Either eat starchy carbs with veggies or protein with veggies, but don't eat starchy carbs and protein together. Weight will fall off without counting calories.

Eat fresh fruit till noon. Nothing but fruit, and must be fresh not canned.

sixgoofykids, can you explain why we shouldn't eat carbs with protein? I've heard others say that before but I never understood why. I thought it was best to combine foods to help keep blood sugar stable.

Thanks.

Sammy, it's called food combining. There are so many different theories to eating, and this one I have found keeps the weight down. I am thin, but I use it because my digestion is better with it. I also keep from gaining weight.

It's harder to digest starches and proteins together.

I don't eat simple carbs because they have a bad affect on blood sugar, but I have found that eating a meal with a healthy, starchy carb, fat, and veggies will keep my blood sugar stable. If you really need protein, you could eat some nuts or nut butter with the carb. Or maybe some beans. Either of those makes it slightly harder to digest, but not the same as adding and animal protein.

Some can't handle the fruit till noon part of the diet, or shouldn't do it because of candida. That part is designed to optimize the detoxification cycle. Fruit is high in water and enzymes, plus is easy to digest. Early in the day your body is still in the detox mode, so easy to digest food will allow your body to continue working on detox.

Personally, I eat kefir in the morning, though prior to Lyme I always ate nothing but fruit till noon.

This theory is talked about in the Body Ecology Diet. Also in Fit for Life, and older Natural Hygeine books.

Thank you sixgoofykids. I'll have to find those books. I'm always interested in learning more to try to keep healthy.

Sammy you are correct in that it does keep your blood sugar stable. My Mom is diabetic and I have had to attend some nutritional meetings for with her and that is the one thing they do stress.

Randi

I agree with the others..Weight Watchers. I have been on it since 3/2 and have dropped 37.6 lbs (no exercise). We too eat out often and I am able to do it and still loose the weight!

Hmm, definetly can't lose weight by not eating.
I eat like a bird ...one meal a day and then it's very little...I'm still fluffy!

I lost 35 pounds and have kept it off for a year doing low carb/high protein (similar to Atkins)-- mostly meat and veggies, with some lower sugar fruit like apples and strawberries, and high fat everything like whole milk, whole eggs, real butter, cheese, nuts, etc.

Before that, I tried dieting low fat/low calorie for 3 months. I lost about a pound a week if I was lucky, and was starving all the time.

After I started the low carb/high protein, I ate twice as many calories and lost 2-2.5 pounds a week without exercising. After I started weight lifting, my weight went up and down each month, but in a downward direction, and I lost inches. I got fatigued unless I ate a high carb snack right after working out, like a banana or chocolate milk.

If you eat too little, your body thinks you're starving (well, you are), and your metabolism slows down to conserve all the calories it can. Skipping meals and not eating is a surefire way to gain weight in the end.

I eat 3 meals and 1-3 snacks every day, and that keeps my blood sugar even.

PS, take fish oil and eat coconut oil. Getting enough omega-3's and good fats has a significant effect on the metabolism.

Everything weight watchers can be found by googling. There are people who have made websites that list the points for every.possible.food. I use to have one on my favorites but not on this computer. Even the points calculator can be found online.

I'm getting ready to start south beach-modified. I assume it's good for Lyme because it's high protien-low carbs. I will be eating lots of eggs, meat, and cheese. I've always lost at least 15 lbs on it.

I had lost 25 lbs before I knew what was going on..now I've gained it all back plus 2. I am active every day at work and haven't changed my eating habits. So south beach here I come.

The only issue I know I'm going to have on South Beach is the sugar issue. My body CRAVES sweets SO BAD! It's going to be hard to say no. But I'm going to see the in-laws soon and I don't want to look like this....so I have to stick with it.

Anytime I do a diet I like to hang an outfit up where I can see it every morning. Something I can't fit into now. Something I would really LOVE to wear. It reminds me why I am doing what I am doing. So I will hang up my favorite jeans (that currently won't go past my knees) and a cute little shirt...and work on it.

I'm going to try to exercise as much as I can as well. Although I've been having some pretty rough days lately (thinking cycling) so we'll see. Diet starts sometime between tomorrow and Monday-depends which day we go to the Beach.

Good luck to you and anyone else on a diet...it can be hard.
