Hi,
I got Lyme at my place of work (a summer camp) 2 years ago and so this has been a worker's comp case (thank God). I have been seeing Dr. H in Northern CA and Dr. KS in Maryland -- two Lyme experts. It's very slow going, but I am getting better. The camp's insurance company has been paying (partially). Now, however, they are claiming that ANY family doctor or ANY internist in Los Angeles can treat my Lyme just as well as my two Lyme experts. Clearly they have no clue about this disease, but I still have to prove that an expert gives me the best chance of recovering and that this is a very complicated disease and that, since we don't see so much Lyme in LA, the docs here simply don't have the same kind of expertise and experience as my two docs have.

Can anyone help me prove this? Are there lists of the countries TOP LLMD's (not those just starting out, but those with established reputations in the field)? If I can show them that Los Angeles does not include that many of these, maybe that will help. (The more official looking the better)

Any other suggestions?
If you could please email me at [email protected] (instead of on this site )as soon as possible that would be great. I only have today to write my rebuttal to their appeal.

Thanks so much!
Beth

There is no official list and will likely never be one. LLMDs are continually being attacked by insurance companies and by other doctors who are not educated in lyme but still want to run out the doctors who are.

I think your best bet is to contact your local state group, CALDA, as they are extremely helpful regarding activism. They might have someone with excellent suggestions for you.

Good luck.
