I occasionally get the feeling that my throat is closing up, and I have a very difficult time swallowing. It's hard to explain, but it almost feels as if I forgot how to swallow. I have to really think about swallowing... Today, it has been worse than usual... The funny thing is I don't feel like it is an allergic reaction, because it just comes and goes at different times, and i can't associate it with anything external...
Does anybody else get this symptom? While it's very unnerving, it always eventually goes away. Is there anything I should be watching out for?

Yes, I get it, and for me, it's related to the neck vertebrae.
I have asked chiropractors what they're adjusting in my neck. It seems if C1, C2 or C4 is subluxated, the nerves that control swallowing and the throat area can be affected.
When the vertebrae are corrected, the swallowing difficulty stops for the time being.

Ahh, interesting, because I have a ton of neck problems. Perhaps I'll find a chiropractor, and see if that helps. I wonder if there are any chiropractors who understand Lyme. an LLC? hahahah

I also notice that I can get a little relief by squashing with my fingers what I think is the upper SCM (sterno-cleido-mastoid) muscle attachment to the base of the skull.
Try playing around with squashing any neck muscle spasms and see if you can get a reduction in the symptoms.
But still, it takes a chiro to fix the vertebrae.
Maybe more understanding needs to be brought to this situation as to what could be causative reasons - tight muscles, any loss of neck curve (which I have), loose ligaments, etc.

You sure you don't have some asthmatic symptoms? I have it from time to time & it feels like that, sometimes like I can't swallow.

I have reflux really bad and my first symptom was that I couldn't always swallow...which is a freaky symptom. Have you checked to see if you have reflux?

That doesn't sound stupid at all. I was just thinking to myself that it seems to happen more when I'm taking in more sugar and other refined carbs!!!
Lately, especially since starting on 3 different antibiotics, I have been craving sugar like crazy. Mostly chocolate, but also anything carby temporarily satisfies the craving.
I need to get back in control!!!

I have been trying to figure this symptom out for 4 years. There are a million posssibilites. All I know is it started when I became ill, so it has something to do with LD.
I think it is an inflammed cranial nerve or inflammation in the throat.
I tried keeping a journal to see what triggers it and there is no rhyme or reason to it as far as I can tell.
I do have asthma and it seems to act up at the same time, thus I think inflammation as the most likely culprit.
I am sure other things could cause it too.
Maybe a cranial nerve is causing both the asthmatic feeling and the throat sensation.
