well after waitn only 6 weeks my ssi was turned down because i can do "other" work and i am not blind. how can i do other work when most days i cant move my hands or get out of bed. i take so many meds i cant even help my 7 year old with her home work. i no longer have my health insurance, cant afford my meds, i am really stressed out and dont see an end in sight. i have called a few laywers and pray they will help me. i just dont understand what "other" work i can do. sometimes i feel my family would be better of with out me in there lives, i cant take care of my kids, my house, my pet or help my husband

Do not despair, begin appealing the decision immediately and don't give up. It is pretty common to be turned down the first time you apply. Find a lawyer who specializes in SSI and does not require payment unless your case is won. Hang in there, this will most likely be a long process. Mine took 2 1/2 years.

Jody, I don't know if it was a coincidence or ?
But, I sent several letters off to political reps explaining my situation.
One called and asked me if I had heard from Soc Sec yet.
I said no.
Received a call from soc security to come into the office a short time afterwards.
While in the office the rep said something about me getting an attorney and what a waste of funds that was...but rep was not very professional so take what she said with a grain of salt.
Attorney was not very professional or helpful either.
I feel my LLMD helped the most by how he filled out the forms...but that is just from my perspective and not scientific.
I do believe the doctor's imput has a big impact.
Can't recall how long it took. Do recall it was denied a few times so hang in there.
I would really prefer to bring in an income but at this point with my health am thankful for the SSI.

i dont no what to do to help my doc, he does support me. any idea's?

It is a tough position to be in...not enough funds to see a LLMD and finding a doc that insurance is paying for is usually so unwilling to even learn.

They just turn you down twice to put pressure on you.
They hope you are faking it and will go back to work.
When you are about to or do loose everything including your mind, they will go OH must not be faking it.
It is very hard to get.
Hang in there and don't stop trying.
Apply for food stamps,go to the local food pantry, apply for medicaid, heph, and percentage of income electric bill, you can even get your phone paid for.I even got some house payments paid by a local chairity. And free counciling because I got suisidal.
