Hi All,

I haven't posted here in a long time; like many people who have recovered from lyme disease, I stopped hanging out on the boards once I was able to start working again.

Another user PM'd me today to ask about an old post that I had written, and it reminded me that many times those who've gotten well don't come back to tell the rest of you that it IS possible to recover!

I was diagnosed with Lyme in Jan 2009, I had contracted it in March 2007 and it had really dragged me down. Once I began treatment in March 2009 I had to stop working because I felt so horrible with the herxing. (This was awful for me, because I love my job as an ecologist.)

After a lot of antibiotics and probiotics and antifungals and pills pills pills, I was able to start working again part time in October '09, full time in November '09, able to start exercising again in Jan 2010. I have been exercising nearly every day since then and watching what I eat, and I have dropped about 30 of the 40 pounds I gained while sick. In March 2009 I started to feel more like my old self, emotionally. I spent the whole month of July doing very physically demanding work in the field, with little/no problems. When I saw a lot of old colleagues at a conference in August, I kept hearing that it seemed like I was recovered.

I'm posting this not to brag -- but to remind you that no matter how hard it seems right now as you are dealing with this terrible, complicated illness, that IT IS POSSIBLE TO RECOVER AND GET YOUR OLD LIFE BACK.

A year ago, I felt like my life was over -- today it's like I was never sick. I'm still on antibiotics and am not sure what post-treatment will be like -- I sure do not want a relapse -- but please hang in there.

Thanks so much, kimwg. I am really discouraged today and that gave me some much-needed hope and encouragement! [Smile]

My 19-old-son has lyme arthritis and he is desperate to hear stories that include recovery from rib cage pain. Did you have and recover from any rib cage pain?

I'm sorry to ask such a specific and seemingly silly question... but he is just really unhappy with the rib cage problems... that his rheumatologist/LLMD calls costochondritis.
