Its 3:40am and ive been up since 2. What the heck is wrong with me! This has been going on more frequently as of late. I was EXHAUSTED last nite. And took a melatonin. And yet here i am. This is getting really old.

Hi Misfit,
My sleep improved when my LLMD addressed my hormones.
I was tested and now use bioidenticals... DHEA in the a.m., progesterone at night and topical estrogen and testoserone.
I also use L-tryptophan and L-theanine at night and sublingual melatonin.
I take Vit D3 at noon.
Cortisol levels are often reversed....high at night and low in the a.m. and this problem should be considered and addressed.

I take 2.5 mg. of Ambien every single night. A normal dose (5 to 10 mg) turns me into a total Zombie...but the 2.5 allows me to sleep without the turning me into a zombie. If I don't take it I don't sleep Posted by Misfit (Member # 26270) on :
Thanks for the suggestions. I recently stopped my hormones. Wonder. I hadnt missed a monthly since starting them and well...i want to miss my monthlies! I may try a lower dose of ambien and see if it wont leave me groggy for days afterwards. If it does i guess its back to the hormones. I found it curious that i had awful carb and sugar cravings all day. Hmmm

Hi misfit, happened to see this post and wanted to warn you not to cave into your carb and sugar cravings!! That's usually the first sign of yeast trying to take over, be careful, and maybe up your probiotic dosage!

I can only say what works for me.
I used to use Ambien too,,,either hung over in morning or up all night in spite of it.
I happen to notice that if I ate salty food slept like a baby.
I used to sweat all day outside.
Taking a salt pill at night worked 10 times better than Ambien
My LLMD said there was a reason for it I cant recall.

My daughter told me that ambien is highly addictive. Dont know if shes right or not. And salt pills? Ill certainly look into that. Unfortunately i caved on the sugar cravings. Had sodas. Plural. Was hurting so bad last nite i couldnt have slept if my life depended on it. Thank goodness for the internet cos tv bites at 3am!

Yeast gave me significant insomnia. Normally I fall asleep fairly easily, but I would just lie there for hours. That was fine again after I got the yeast under control.
I have been getting the early morning cortisol spikes for a long time, that wake me up at 3 or 4am, though I can usually sleep again in a few minutes. One night recently, after eating a lot of pizza the day before, I found myself wide awake and reading a serious book from 2:15 to 4:30.
Someone mentioned that they thought reducing their inflammation also helped their cortisol not to spike too much during the night. I just got all the way on my low carb diet and finally went 3 days without cheating and eating carbs. I'm not sure yet if it's significant, but I slept through the night the last 2 nights in a row.

Thats an interesting point. I had not been doing too well since my trip to tulsa where we went to red robin and i decided to eat what i wanted. Set myself up for a downward spiral. Today is the 1st day ive gotten hold of myself and back on the wagon. Ive always had trouble falling asleep and usually read in bed until im ready for sleep. Dont know how long it will take me to recover from all the crap i ate but im curious to see what happens. I appreciate all the responses and suggestions!

Misfit...I went years without getting a good night's rest.
I went from being able to get in bed and read a bit before falling asleep and sleeping through the night...waking up refreshed and ready for the day.
To not getting sleep from 1991 on....maybe before then..I just recall the restless legs at that time.
I have noticed that we are all different on what helps.
I take glycine, gabapentin (3 pills) at night and 3 during the day and a generic sleeping pill for restoril.
I think I just started sleeping through the night about a year ago. Not sure and I still need to lay on the couch and have the tV help me to fall asleep.
As far as sleeping pills being addictive, I decided that sleep is addictive. HA!
I did not want to take more pills for years...even after finally being dx with lyme and company...but finally decided that not getting sleep was not good for my health too.
I like the idea of having the harmones tested. No one has done that with me.
Keep trying. You will get it figured out.
With me it was just an accident to discover the gabapentin helped me sleep...
but, it takes all 3 as I have tried just taking one or the other and I am back to not sleeping.
I am out of the glycine right now and am not sleeping through the night although I have been able to get a nap during the day which helps.

I drink tea with Valerian in it, usually 2 bags of Yogi's Bedtime tea + a dose of xtra-strength Tylenol [+ sometimes .125 mg of Xanax].
I don't have trouble falling asleep with that little cocktail. Now, stAying asleep - that's another matter! But I can usually sleep 4-5 hours with the tea and pain-reducers.

It seems like so many struggle with sleep issues. I cant remember a time when i would fall asleep at a decent hour and STAY that way. Im little by little trying to figure this out. In all honesty im going to try sleeping on the couch. I was so used to sleeping by myself when married to my kids dad cos he had RLS and i couldnt take it. Im wondering if i just might sleep better alone.
