On August 27, 2010, the Board and Dr. W, entered into an Agreed Order requiring Dr. W to complete within one year 15 hours of CME including 10 hours in Lyme disease (coursework must be sponsored by the Infectious Disease Society of America) and five hours in ethics; and pay an administrative penalty of $2,000 within 60 days. The Order was based upon Dr. W's failure to meet the standard of care in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease for one patient; nontherapeutic prescribing to the Patient; and his unprofessional conduct of receiving a percentage of profits for a vitamin supplement that he recommended the Patient purchase during her treatment.

I personally heard a slightly different story. I heard that an ID Dr. actually turned him in, as apposed the the patient. I don't think the TMB is letting out the full truth (unethical?).
I'm glad he was ethical and didn't complete any IDSA coursework. It's interesting that he decided to retire instead.
And he wasn't exactly a supplement profiteer. I got 0 supplements from him, but it would have been nice if he sold them in his office.

I personally would make them read Lida H. Mattman's book so they have a correct understanding on bacteriology first.
never did he even approach me about any supplements. i didn't even see them advertised.
i still think there is something screwy about this.
they wanted a good llyme doctor out of business and they succeeded.
and unfortunately some lyme patient went along with it.

- My ND sells supplements but she makes no money other than her stocking fee and delivery charges. She also has to pay in advance and keep a stocked supply. The interest alone on her charge card is more than she recovers for the the convenience of our having products she has researched and examined to be top quality.
Still, a reasonable fair market price would be legal if she sold for the same amount as what I would have to pay if I got at another place. It's about fair market price. Many MDs get a cut or a bonus for prescribing lots of Rx.
I sure hope the husband who started this trouble by battling his wife over her treatment is happy with himself. He's not only ruined it for his wife, others in that area but for others, everywhere.
IDSA's crushing power is reigning down across the land. Bit by bit. Unhappy husbands are sure helping them, it seems. Time after time, that seems to be what starts trouble for so many LLMDs. A spouse does not want to get educated enough to understand &/or despises a life partner so much that to literally cut off all chances for treatment.
I have to say that were I to be a LLMD in this climate, I would quit. I would just quit. -

Well, they penalized him for failure to meet the IDSA (inadequate) standard of care for treating lyme disease.
If he was not willing to switch to the IDSA standard of care, then why continue treating? They would have just gone after him again in short order and this time they would have taken his license and probably hit him for a much, much larger fine.
So, why pay them $2000 and study incorrect ways of treating lyme only to go through this same thing, but worse, in a few more months? No.
The handwriting was on the wall. They weren't going to let him continue treating lyme the correct way. Period.

It is so ridiculous that they would penalize a doctor for making any profit on supplements. The cancer doctors were making huge profits by providing in-house chemo, said to be for the convenience of patients. When the reimbursement was reduced, they stopped providing it. So much for convenience of patients. And state medical boards did nothing about this.
TX is about as corrupt a CT.

I discussed the Lyme controversy with a doctor in a small NE Texas town. He flatly stated that the Texas medical boards were outrageous. He even slapped palms with me in an "atta girl"!

Does anyone have any clues about any other Doctor that would talk to a Lyme patient in the DFW area?
Dr. W brought me back to life and I'm so sad and angry this happened.
Plus, I'm pregnant now and need a doctor that will help me test my newborn.
