So, last year, many of you know how I fell very ill in Russia. Had to come home early from my college program and I ended up with a positive lyme test.
After seeing an infectious disease doc, she told me I was cured, and tried sending me to a neuro because I probably had MS since lyme was "Cured".
Anyways, I found a great LLND, who is helping me with the right treatment.
Because I went through 2 spinals taps, a blood patch and MANY ER runs, I ended up getting suspended from BYU because of to many absences.
My husband and I were unsure what was going to happen with my education because of me having lyme, but turns out Lyme had open a door for me.
Once i was suspended, I was not sure what I was going to do with myself. We found out that There is a hair school known as "Paul Mitchell" next to my apartment.
I began to investigate, and I felt like I "Needed" to go there. I did not know why. I did not even knew if my health would permit me.
Eventually, BYU recieved a doctor note, and said I could come back and would have my suspension lifted due to medical.
So, I began to feel torn.
Then I thought that I would give hair school a try.
And ... all of a sudden, I found out a talent I never knew I had.
HAIR! Who would have thought!
All the students here, as soon as they found out I had lyme, All wore "Green Ribbon's To support me.
No one, had even cared at my other school.
and some here at Paul Mitchell still wear there green ribbon's for me.
Suprisingly, my health is getting better with treatment. I can focus better and memorize so much better!!!
And, the coolest part is I passed my written exam and passed my floor test today!!! Which means I can start taking appointments next week. I wont get paid for it, because it counts as hours towards my license. But I can keep tips ;-)
I just think it is neat to find blessings in our trials.
If I never had gotten lyme, I never would have known i had this talent;-)

Very nice, Stephanie! What a positive story! I also really like that the students are wearing green ribbons for you and Lyme.
I wonder if something more could be done with that, like organize a one-day "hairathon," with all proceeds that day going to a Lyme cause in your area.
It could be organized it as a fun event, like maybe do something creative with green ribbons in the hair, take pics, make a fun display, etc. Maybe you could start new hair styles involving green ribbons and braids in hair. Oh well, just trying to do my "part".

I am delighted for you. Not only did you find a talent, you found a wonderful group of people!
Most of us get derailed by Lyme. Maybe you got "re-railed."
I hope others will chime in with any "gifts" that Lyme brought to them. I could use the inspiration.

BoxerMom, I learned to speak up more loudly! When I advocated recently for something in a former area of involvement, I found myself speaking up strongly and loudly, like out of proportion to the need,
and everyone who had known me before was startled, wondering where that came from, and then I started laughing - it was my Lyme advocacy voice being applied to an innocuous need!

i got teary eyed over how supportive your new colleagues are. Love the idea of a hair fundraiser.
Boxermom My gifts are
--empathy for those with chronic disease, not that I did not care but from the inside it is different.
--with the second bite I found all of these resources...a lyme literate practioner... so that i could also more fully recover form the first chronic infection
--can help with people in my world who need to be steered to resources...yeah got a big mouth on this one too Robin123. LOL
--because of physical limits and fatigue I moved to a much smaller place nearer my work center.
The scale of the tiny yard and patio garden has fits me now so well. A micro habitat I can manage. Mayb my most beautiful garden yet.
My favorite place to be online and generally do table work at home (which I often do instead of going to office due to fatigue) is looking out the sliders to that garden and the bird visitors.
there are more but those are the easiest to tell.
Looking for blessings big and little is essential for me in this long journey.

Yea! I am going to go back to school for my teaching degree. I still want to teach K-3 part time and then do hair on the side.
I just hope this next year will go by so I can feel a little more better.

It's awesome to find something good about having Lyme!
I'm in school now, but online so it's much easier than face to face. I can be having a horrible pain day and lay up on the couch and do my work...so it works out alright. Brain days-now that's a different story lol.
