Posted Nov 06, 2010 @ 08:00 AM To the Editor: 'Tis the season for ticks. Many are coming in with crawling ticks, embedded ticks and gorged ticks.
If you find a tick crawling on your pet or yourself, there is no need to worry. Simply touch the sticky side of scotch tape to it, fold the tape over it, and discard.
If the tick is embedded, it can be easily removed using a small spoon available at pet stores. This spoon has a perfect size V wedge notched out of it to capture the tick, including the head. Once captured it can be rolled into the tape and discarded.
Any tick parts that remain embedded should be left alone. I invite you to Google ``embedded tick.''
Once the tick attaches, it usually needs 24 hours before introducing the germ of Lyme Disease. If you find an attached tick, your physician can prescribe an antibiotic (need only two pills), which will prevent Lyme Disease.
The problem, during this season of the prolific tick, is not the tick you find, but the tick you do not find. Most people with severe Lyme Disease have no knowledge of having been bitten.
If you discover a rash looking like a bulls eye target, or a faint red rash about the size and shape of your palm, your physician can prescribe a longer course of an antibiotic to prevent the complications of Lyme Disease.
My friend Dave and I just came in from the woods in my backyard where we saw much evidence of deer activity. Before entering the house, I removed 20 plus ticks from my clothing. Be careful not to bring home ticks when you walk the woods, or even your lawn if it has been visited by Bambi.

He says you can get "severe Lyme disease" but thinks two pills is OK to prevent it.
I could go on and on with this one. GADS!!
If the tick bites you, you're OK if it's only attached 23 hrs and 59 seconds?

I'm surprised no one pointed out his remark on "Common Sense Over Fear"
like.. common sense that NO bacterial infection can be irradicated by 'two pills'
perhaps if he said something along the lines of "two types of antibiotics"... then okay..
but 'two pills' .. he contradicts himself with that whole 'common sense' bit
and Woah Woah Woah!!! did he say any part of the tick left embedded should be left alone???

oh wait... My GI dr who doesn't believe in Candida/yeast would rank right up there with this guy. (though his lack of knowledge wouldn't be quite as dangerous as this nutcase)

On the last day of school in early June for my youngest daughter, she came home with a letter about prevention and treatment of Lyme that trumps this. I wish I would have kept it but every time I looked at it, the letter ****ed me off.
I made sure the author was made aware of all her inaccuracies and copied her boss, the superintendent.
