Anyone see Letterman last night? He talked about getting bit and showed the tick he pulled off himself.

He has talked about lyme disease in the past, and made fun of it. Don't look for any help here. Probably something in the lymenet archives about it if you do a search.

Yes, I saw it. He was worried that he might have ehrlichiosis again because he pulled a tick off him again and wasn't feeling that great.

He didn't joke about it this time. He was actually telling the audience that it's serious.
He actually had audience members look at the tick through a magnifying glass.

No joking this time around.

Well, got a long learning curve, but maybe he will eventually get there.

He's taking it seriously since he is now a Lyme patient I guess. He got VERY ill on round one of ehrlichiosis last year.

That's what he gets for making fun of Lyme in the past.

I wondered if it was it a new or repeat show? I see from the schedule that it was to be a new show. His site may have a video link.

Does anyone know during which segment his comment was voiced? Videos at his site are not easily navigated and are segmented. I would like to see it but am limited in ability to handle computer videos and hunting for scenes is hard

It was a new show and I couldn't find the segment that he talked about it.

It was after the monologue and before Russell Crowe came out.

i've never liked letterman but i'm glad to see he's not being so jovial this time.

oh it's fine when someone is sick, but oh wait until they get sick, then it's a different story.

RDay,

thanks for looking - and for telling me about where to search for it if I were to be so inclined.

I couldn't find the segment either. But, it's his job and who he is to joke about stuff, so I find no fault in that. But, that's probably a personal thing...he could say anything and make me laugh.

Sometimes, laughing about something is a way to draw attention to something (think Chris Rock - racial issues, etc).

I didn't get to hear the WHOLE segment that's why I was asking. I did hear him talking about deer ticks and how they find their way to us.

I know he's talked about it before, but this time he was talking about "getting treatment". Paul just kept saying "get the treatment." lol So, I thought it might be of some interest. I would think we'd take any recognition we could get, even if it's "funny".

I don't mean to sound crass, because I know it's not a funny thing at all. But, it takes all kinds, right?

Anyway, I'll keep trying to find the episode/segment and post it here when I find it.

You didn't miss much. Fastforward to 9:35. Interestingly, it seems he got bit in the same area as myself.

glad everyone found "the tick disease" to be so funny.

I thought the comments were sarcasim.

Like he said I hope I didn't get the dread disease.

He should have had the tick tested, then have his brain tested.

No, he got quite ill for a short while before.

While I think he was trying to be somewhat serious, he is supposed to try be funny. It's his job.

The good news for him is that if he is infected, I think he'll be fine with prompt treatment (assuming the doctor tests for diseases like babs as well).

Did he get a new bite or this is a relapse? I'll bet he got inadequate treatment the first time.

About two years ago he made very inappropriate remarks about having Lyme. Made it sound like it's no big deal. That is NOT funny to me!

Then later he got really sick. Now he's sick again.

He lives in CT, which is pretty much ground zero for TBI's. I would bet that he doesn't have a very LL doctor though. Not that he couldn't afford the best. Just out of not knowing.

A couple of nights ago, I thought he looked not well at all.

Maybe whatever he caught from that tick, lyme, ehrlichia, whatever, is what makes him so mean. I hate the way he treats some of his guests.

But I still wouldn't wish this disease on anyone.

What goes around comes around. Secretly, inside, I feel guilty for being happy when some of the people in my life who treated me badly and said I was a hypochondriac/malingering, whining, lazy, etc; ended up with the same exact disease.

Morally, I think it's wrong, but I feel what I feel sometimes.
