Flynn is pulling through and the vet is optimistic. She is thin and weak, but the vet says this is normal as her organs heal and her phosphorous and BUN levels come down.

We don't feel like we are "out of the woods," but we are hopeful.

It has been a very stressful week.

Thank you for all your kind words of support. It has meant the world to me.

GO FLYNN!!!!! That is wonderful news [Smile]

She didn't happen to eat grapes did she? My sister's dog's kidney failed from eating grapes.

Really? Grapes?

Flynn had weak kidneys to begin with. We think her bout with pancreatitis put too much stress on her remaining kidney function, and put her into kidney failure.

She had an ear surgery in November and required antibiotics, antifungals, steroids and antihistamines during her recovery.

Of course, it being November, she also got more "table treats" than usual, like turkey gravy on her dog food.

We've read that both drugs and high blood lipids (even briefly - like after one high fat meal!) can cause pancreatitis in dogs. We're thinking the combo of meds and table food overwhelmed her little pancreas, which overwhelmed her kidneys, and downhill she went.

These are such fragile creatures!

She is recovering, though. Good appetite and energy today. We're giving subcutaneous fluids. She goes for her follow-up tomorrow.

Thanks again for the support. I can't tell you how much it has meant to me.

Glad to hear your dog is on the mend!

I heard the same thing about grapes and raisins from an acquaintance being bad for a dog's kidneys.

I've got a labbie and used to feed him both until it was brought to my attention.
