Heres the deal, I don't know what to do. I would love to grab a couple of friends and go up to Portland for the weekend and just have a fun weekend. However, that will not be feasable. And besides that the friends I would want to go with live on the other end of the country.
I'm feeling so sad because its my 21st birthday and I am too sick to really do anything. I can't eat so going out for a nice dinner is useless. I don't have energy to go shopping.
This is supposed to be such a big thing! The start of your official adult life, and where am I? Stuck in bed!!
So here is my question: what could I do for my birthday? Do you guys have any ideas?

I forgot to mention that by that time I will have a PICC line and will have only been on IV antibiotics for about 4 weeks. So just in time for some serious herxing going on.
I just want to cry. I feel like I've missed out on so much in life already, I don't want to miss out on this part as well!

How about finding a gorgeous massage therapist who will come to your place and pamper you with a two hour massage?
Then maybe some funny movies while drinking lots of water.

Invite a few friends over and watch a good movie!!

Oh lucky, I like that idea!! I have a wonderful massage therapist, I should get a 2 hour instead of my usual 1!!! I love that idea!!
I might just have to resort to having a few friends over and doing something.
I really wanted to go OUT and do SOMETHING!!!

Depends upon how you're feeling that day!! A good massage and then a movie!! Posted by luckylymie (Member # 30162) on :
If you are having just girls, you could make it a "Beauty Shop/Spa/Healing Retreat Night".
If it's a mixed group, you could make it an art project night.....maybe coloring Easter eggs?

If you can't go out on your birthday, then maybe take a raincheck on it - when you are feeling better, invite some friends to go out on the town with you to celebrate not only turning 21 but also feeling a little better -
This is a strategy I use when unable to do something at the time but I really want to do it!

Oh! I should see if I can find somebody to come to my house and do mani/pedis for a couple girls!! Hhmmmm....I'll have to look into that!
@Robin- I thought about that. There is some of the magic lost when I have to do that. But I just might. I would rather do it when I am actually feeling up to it then suffer through a night wishing I was in bed and that my friends were gone!!!
Thanks everybody for the ideas!

Look in the mirror and say hello beautiful

Thanks kam for that reminder...it brings me to another point. I will post another discussion about that.

Give yourself permission to have an amazing 21.5 birthday six months from now. I have had to do that before, and it was wonderful to look forward to something so unique.

If you end up having friends over to your house, can you ask one or two of them to "plan a surprise party" for you?
Whatever they plan would be a surprise for you - decorations, food, etc. It would probably be fun for them too.
Another thought - at the gathering, ask everyone to write down their wishes, hopes, dreams, whatever for you in a book or something you have that you can refer to later. If you're into it, maybe some sort of ceremony, lighting candles, burning wishes or things you want to be rid of in a bowl.
(BTW - I didn't herx at all when I started IV Rocephin, so it's not a foregone conclusion that you'll be in terrible shape that day.)
I know it's a hard time to turn 21, but hopefully soon you'll have this behind you and the rest of your beautiful life to look forward to. Posted by sickntired19 (Member # 21949) on :
So many good ideas! Thanks guys!
I really like the photo shoot that somebody suggested, so I got on Craigslist and found a few people looking for subjects to shoot for free to add to their portfolio.
I'm pretty excited about doing this!! This way I can document this time in such a special way...even if this isn't a fun time!
