I'm trying to determine what type of health insurance plans most individuals use for seeing lyme literate doctors. Most of these doctors don't accept insurance and I'm currently enrolled in an HMO which they only pay for "in-network" doctors. I've been debating to switch to a "fee-for-service" plan where the insurance reimburses you a portion of the bill but I'm not real sure. Any suggestions appreciated.

Will the primary in your HMO work with you? That's what we did. We paid for the LLMD fees out of pocket but brought all of the prescriptions and labs back to our primary for him to run through the "system."

PPO's are the best, in my opinion.

My PPO from work is inexpensive. Yes, you have to deal with a deductible, etc, but no referrals are required.

Thanks for the responses. Working with my primary doctors is a no go, they don't think anything is wrong with me so I doubt they will support how the LLMD is treating me. My insurance does pay for my prescriptions however I would like to figure out how I can get reimbursed for the visits which are very expensive.
I will look at PPO's again although I think you still are recommended to use the insurance companies preferred providers with that plan.
