I felt it here in PA too! Scary...our whole house shook, including lamps and plants and I heard a loud noise like there was a huge wind.
Never felt anything like it before.
I have to admit, the thought went through my mind that maybe this was the end of the earth..I was waiting to hear a loud trumpet.

Amazing. One day we will have one here... we get them all the time within a few hundred miles of us...but have never felt them.
5.9 is a pretty good size
Is everything OK?

Everything is ok, Lymetoo.
My daughter, s-i-l and grandsons were in the car at a Mcdonalds about 13 miles before the Bay Bridge in MD, heading to the beach.
Deven started crying and then Kaden started crying because Deven was crying....they were very scared.
So glad they were not crossing that scary Bay Bridge when the earthquake hit.
They did go over it afterwards with no problems.
I don't like that bridge...too long and high and the sides are too low....we always go through DE when we go to the beach so we don't have to go over it.

I wasn't sure what it was. My house shook big time and one of my kids was in the shower. We are patiently waiting for the aftershocks.

I have never felt anything like that before. We aren't supposed to get earthquakes here. Last one in this area was 1879.
My son lives in Richmond near the epicenter and he is okay. We finally got through to each other with a text message. Hubby is fighting traffic trying to get home with all the traffic of everyone leaving work early. They evacuated his building and after an hour sent everyone home.

Felt it here in Philly. I live in a highrise on the 14th floor. My whole apt shook and scared the crap out of me.
I heard that people evacuated aome of the big high rises in the center of the city. I am sleeping with my bra on.
P. S. Glad to hear everyone is okay. Gael

Thank you for the giggle I really needed to laugh about something after being shaken today!! Posted by James1979 (Member # 31926) on :
Do you think the quake could be felt from Illinois?
I felt a little rumbling today around 12:30 CST, but I thought it was just my dog farting.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Yes, James! They showed IL on the map of states that felt it! It wasn't your dog!!
My nephew works about 5-10 miles from the epicenter ... Richmond too.

wasnt me causing it. Up and down the ladder a 100 times today 1000 times in last month,,,,and didnt even fall off once !
When my fat fanny hits the ground it causes those BIG earthquakes

Hope everyone is ok - it can be very startling - I can just imagine - not even understanding what it is at first - also, buildings aren't retrofitted like they are here, so I hope it doesn't happen too often there...
Here we're very used to them, but always hope they're small enough. The last one I felt was on April 6, the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake -
I was at the library when it happened, so there were lots of folks all looking up at each other at the same time, and then everyone started laughing, because of the date.
Ha, Just Don - posting at the same time - I was just about to check in with you to see if you caused this - I read online that someone was on a ladder when it happened. My advice - do not be on a ladder when an earthquake occurs.
