Hi,

My computer is being hijacked to an ad when I visit lymenet. It is also happening other times with other sites.

Norton has been trying to eliminate it for two days with no success yet. Just wondering if it's happening to anyone else here?

Not with LN, but that happened a couple times in the past few days when I tried to long onto - even checked the URL and it was correct, but kept going to a spam site. I tried later and it worked.

Thanks for the feedback. Norton has now assigned my case to a supervisor. Just can't figure out why my computer got attacked like this. Norton is supposed to be tops. [Roll Eyes]

I will say tho, they have been really supportive and efficient in tech support with cleaning up my computer.

Oh well, another eve on the phone with them trying to figure this out.

I like AVG, but there is no phone support with them. However, I've never needed it either, so that speaks well of their product.

Okay...Had another technician work on my computer last night to get rid of this virus that has infected my computer. Couldn't sleep, so I just came on here to lymenet and it happened again...ANOTHER SPAM AD!

The technician informed me last night if the problem wasn't solved and a senior tech had to fix it, it would cost me $99.

WHAT?? Are you kidding me!!? What's wrong with this picture?? 4 techs couldn't fix it and now they want money?

I get Norton with my comcast. If Norton was supposed to protect me in the first place, this virus shouldn't have gotten in.

I am furious that they now want to charge me. [cussing]

Feel like I'm being scammed. Any opinions???

Googled Norton complaints and there were plenty of them. Seems one of them is that they are charging peoples credit cards when on auto payment for in valid purchases.

Trying to figure out another way to get my computer free from this virus. Was hoping a computer person would come along with some experience.

No spam for me either.

You may want to try scanning with a program called MalwareBytes. The scanner is free, and you can run with while you still have Norton on your computer. You can read about it and download it here:

The version with Real Time Protection does cost, but you shouldn't need that to get rid of the virus you have. Also, don't run two programs with Real Time Protection at the same time. They can conflict and really slow down your computer.

Hi I got so tired of windows viruses recently that I installed Linux on my computer.

This is written on Linux Ubuntu operating system.
11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.

Another tip is to get Firefox... also free. I have 1/10 the problems I had while with Internet Explorer as my browser.

It is a nasty virus, my wife has gotten it a few times. Basically you go to a age site and a pop up comes up that mimicks a windows system message, it says you are infected and either has an ok button or a type of clean or scan button.

Basically when you see this you should just shut down your computer and don't touch anything before you do to avoid getting the virus. When you click a button on the pop up or try to close it there is a script that is activated and downloads the virus.

All I've been able to do for my wife's computer is get it to a point where we can save her pics and such and just reformat the hard drive. That is the only sure way I'm aware of to fully rid your system of it.

Linux is fantastic, but if you're not very good with computers it may not be for you. There are also a lot of programs and stuff that won't work with it because they are made to run on windows. I wouldn't recommend Linux unless you know what you're doing or have someone who can help you that knows what they're doing.
