Health insurance for your horse is available and treatment for Lyme disease, ehrlichia and anaplasmosis can be covered under the Major Medical endorsement that can be added to an equine mortality insurance policy.
I called the 800 number and talked to the nice young lady who answered the phone. Is there a limit on the number of days of treatment a horse can get for Lyme disease?
No, she said. It depends on the coverage you buy. For instance, you might have a policy that covers up to $10,000 worth of medical care. Or $15,000.
Once that amount is reached, the policy won't cover any more. But there is no arbitrary limit on the number of days a horse can be treated for Lyme disease.
I asked her if humans can sign up for the same kind of coverage as the horses. She chuckled, assuming I was joking. I wasn't."

In the beginning, when I first found out I had Lyme, I used to say I wanted to go see a vet since they respect these illnesses in pets.

Our vet is our favorite doctor.
He is the only one, with the excepton of my ob/gyn, who is not arrogant and insufferable
Our dogs get tx with more respect than we do!

I would never had thought I had lyme until my father, a veterinarian, kept insisting that I investigate. Of course, he didn't realize how mainstream doctors don't recognize or treat it.

when my vets wife was dx with fibro/ms we had a long talk
he was always great with dogs tx-but really believed ducks for ppl
it was so sad...she was very active athlete and horse woman and went down fast
i dont know what happened but i hope when the tx she was getting didnt work he remembered some of what itold him...i gave him ilads contact info

Outrageous. Hey, in my state they showed like 77 cases of Lyme in dogs and only one in humans! I'll go to the vet and see if I can get a new test done. Then he'll treat me, then worm me with Ivermectin then I'll be a new person!!

This would make for a funny national action: for human Lyme patients to visit the vet during a particular time, maybe for the next May month, with ears and tails on, etc! Lyme Patients Vet Visit Week, or something like that...
And then we'd get to explain to the media why we're doing it! We could bark, meow and neigh as we give out Lyme lit!
And think about the signs!
If I was a horse, I could get Lyme disease coverage!

Well, I happen to live in a city that's done goofier things than this!
