This is my first time posting anything to this site, and I have to say I feel a pretty fortunate, I have only been dealing with Lyme for about a year. I believe that I was bitten about 18 months prior to starting treatment. I never got a positive Lyme test, but the dr. I found was willing to put me on abx. treatment without it. Just had an appt. yesterday though and since no huge improvement he wants to take me off everything for a month or so. Feels it would be good to give my body a break, and get some clarity of sypmtoms. ALso, will be doing another Igenix test. Will this make me go backwards in a big way? I'm scared and feel like I'm starting all over again after very bad year. Thanks for your thoughts. sbou

Welcome. My eyes (and the eyes of many here) need some "breathing room" to better read text - no more that about 3-4 line paragraphs seem to work best.
And if each new thought or question gets a new line, that seems to help with keeping track of the key points. Many with lyme can only track one point per paragraph.
So, then, breaking up your post here so that more can read - keep track - and reply. --------------

For some, a break can be helpful -- yet there are key supplements that can help prevent a backslide.
It's not clear if the doctor you see is what we call ILADS "educated" or not. Now, they may not be an ILADS member, but they do need to be up on all the research -- past and current -- from the kinds of lyme literate (LL) doctor at ILADS.
They need to really know the science of lyme - and all that goes with it. They need to know there are many different approaches -
- and that certain nutritional supplements like Probiotics, liver support, etc. are absolutely vital for the best chance of successful treatment.
If so, you are in far better hands. You might look over these two threads to see if anything stands out for you.

- First, of course, be sure your doctor is a true LLMD. Even if so, you might want to
* find another with a different approach
* stick with this one and see how it goes (sometimes breaks or change of coarse can help)
During this break will your current doctor suggest support methods? Most LLMD will.
During a "break" there are key supplements that can help. Perhaps your doctor knows of a LL ND. If not, talk with your local lyme support group. See articles and books below.
When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods:
if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL (lyme literate) doctor who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -
- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present.
Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.
When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.
Integrative / Holistic M.D., etc. (Be aware that those in this category can have various levels of formal herbal &/or nutritional education, perhaps even just a short course. Do ask first.)
Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:
Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;
knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.
You can compare and contrast many approaches.

Lyme is very slow growing .. so probably not a problem.
It is best to be off antibiotics at least two weeks prior to doing the Western Blot test.
Use this time to begin your no sugar, no white food diet and get on some very good probiotics.

Might be a great time to see lyme antibodies being produced after coming off the abx through Igenex.
You could even have a good feeling period during that time. Enjoy that time and do as Tutu suggested.
Just don't be too disappointed when sx start creeping on again.
