Recently diagnosed and I want to set up an appointment with an LLMD. What should I expect?
What's the price range for visits? Does insurance ever cover anything?
I'm getting a crash course in the controversy surrounding lyme now that I have it. I really want to go to an LLMD asap, but I am a little worried about affording it.

Usually the LLMD's office gives you the appt price when you call. If they did not, call and ask, because you pay up front.
They don't generally accept insurance, but you can submit the costs for insurance reimbursement if your policy accepts that.
It's expensive. Rates vary from $350 - $750 for initial appt and then ($125 - $450) for monthly follow ups.
Igenex testing (if you need it) is also out of pocket and can be very costly. Costs are listed on the Igenex website.

Also, my LLMD is very good about helping me get as much paid through insurance as she can. She knows we have a cruddy insurance policy and pay a lot out of pocket.
Most LLMD's are aware the care carries financial difficulties.... and if they are good, they will help you figure out how to afford it.

- Although most insurance policies do not cover the LLMD appointments and may not cover some (or even any) of the testing or Rx, keep tract.
They are all at least tax deductible. So is lodging and travel to the LLMD. And conferences.
Of course, check the IRS schedule for the reporting year. Not sure when 2012's will be printed.
