Hi,

Has anyone here had their kids test positive for lyme, but then they only experienced minimal effects, or were asymptomatic?

Thanks!

Hi
I just had my youngest daughter tested...she tested positive and has had symptoms since birth.

Now I am worried about my other daughter. My youngest contracted from me apparently and although I thought I was initially bitten in 2006, I guess it was before.

My 10 year old was similar at birth (colicky, allergic, wouldn't sleep) to my 6 year old. But she has since outgrown these things.

I do worry that she tires easily and seems a little on the heavy side compared to myself and my husband. I am thinking of having her tested and wonder what I would do if she came back positive. I think I would treat given her age and the fact that there are some subtle symptoms. I want to give her every possible chance to not get worse during puberty or later on when she has children.

First, be absolutely sure they ARE asymptomatic. They may be experiencing symptoms that they don't tell you or even think are abnormal.

Ill since I was a child, I just thought everyone felt sick and tired all the time. Never knew anyone could really read and remember what they read later, etc.

I thought everyone was dizzy. I never told anyone about all this. I did wonder how others managed to accomplish things that I could not, no matter how hard I tried but . . .

I also thought everyone just flew out of their skin when startled and then felt ill the rest of the day. Because, often people do jump - but my effects were different and I just didn't know it.

I also didn't know that exercise didn't make others feel so ill. I've had exercise intolerance all my life, and it's very serious. But I never knew that could be a sign of infection.

While obesity is a problem to avoid, I worry with the emphasis on hard exercise for those kids who may have exercise intolerance for serious medical reasons that are not yet diagnosed.

You might go through the symptom lists, be VERY, VERY cautious with ANY vaccines or other stressors, etc.

Contact a LLMD if you think there are any symptoms for which diet, gentle exercise or change in habit is not enough.

Now, some are just asymptomatic and doing just fine. They may never get ill. But, it's just good to be sure they are not keeping quiet about how they feel or are able to think and otherwise function.

Are they sensitive to any stimuli, for instance? Symptoms lists are here:
