I don't know if this is a taboo question here and I don't know if it's appropriate to post my personal experience, so I'll just say that I haven't had a bad experience, just lacking. I feel kind of left behind. (I haven't been dumped by my dr, in case anyone is wondering from that statement)

But I also hate the thought of changing doctors, not to mention finding one!

PM is fine if it's not okay to answer here.

Thanks.

We're all different as people, so I think we need to be seeing doctors who are right for our medical needs. If you don't feel like that's happening, you can have a conversation with your doctor about it, and see how they respond. Maybe they're not aware of your discontent.

Alternatively, you could start looking around, including through support groups and pm's, for leads to other practitioners who treat differently. There's nothing wrong with switching if you think your needs are going to be better met elsewhere.

in my mind its one simple question and if you can't answer yes its time to change:

Do you have faith your doctor can get you well given their approach and all the protocoals that are available?

even if your misguided in your answer (meaning they really can help but you have no faith) and you lost faith its time to move to someone else? doubting what they are doing is counter productive....

just my two cents...and this is why i changed....but second time around i chose a doctor who was not locked into ABX only.

i believe my current doctor lives to make me better...even though some stuff has not helped.

It's OK to discuss here as long as you are not saying anything specific about your Dr.

Change when you feel like you've hit a long plateau, or that he is not listening to you and not covering coinfections.

If you keep getting worse and worse...maybe you need to change.

Another example, if you need IV and your Dr only Rx's oral abx.

Maddog, that toooo good LOL! D o not be afraid to change.

Sad as it is, it took me 50 some docs to get a team of 4 that do both regular and alternative meds.

I am so grateful. Another thing don't put up with their crap.

There are plenty of compassionate ones out there, you just have to find them.

I think it's not so simple.

I believe we have to have multiple docs to address these DDs,

No one person has all the answers to our health problems.

IMO we all need a combo of naturopathic and allopathic docs.

We need to see specialists too like GYNOs and Cardiologists.

And most importantly, we need to be our own doctors, meaning we need to research everything ourselves. It's a tough job but what choice do we have?

Do your own research and use it as a springboard to formulate questions for your docs.

The LL docs don't have it easy when it comes to dx and tx. Too many times they throw crap on the wall to see what sticks because really what else can they do given the crap tests they have to work with?

That's where you come in as the educated patient/aka your own doc and give your input regarding your treatment.

Hmmm, thinking that we should be paying ourselves hefty fees for all that we research! Yeah, if only!

sideways, if this is the doctor I recommended to you, I would appreciate a pm from you telling me what the problem is.

I recommend this doc to many people, so I am interested in knowing. Thanks.

I am on my third.

I left the first when after one year, he began talking about me going off ABX and that my symptoms were perhaps residual. I knew better than that, and his own writing was to the contrary. I finally got the hint that it was time for me to move along.

I left the second after 3 years when he seemed to have no clear plan for next steps or new ideas for me.

I have been with the third for 4 months and I am satisfied to this point.

All of them have helped me, although obviously not enough LOL.

It's the same as any provider who is giving you a complex service: Research them, give them a good chance, and leave when you feel you have stalled out.

I've been asking the same question....

I am beginning to feel I am getting "one-size fits all" instead individualized treatment.

Treating by distance is a convenience but I think some of these doctors have too many patients to keep their heads on straight for each patient.

Either that, or mine needs to take a few minutes to review who I am and reflect on my situation before sending off a "pat" email response. Sigh.... just venting out of frustration.
