It is so horrific. Hatred is all around us...even participating in a harmless race one is no longer safe. There is no place for kidding in matters like this.

i heard an interview today with a runner from california.
i couldn't believe it. he was saying that we should ban the pressure cookers and take them out of stores.
he was deadly serious. he said there is no reason for people to have them and that if anything is dangerous it should be banned.
sorry but we've gone a little crazy here. banning pressure cookers is not going to stop anything.
next thing it will be table knives and forks, yard fertilizer, hairpins, whatever.
i'm so sorry this happened and i feel for those involved.

I rarely post.
That guy interviewed was probably still in psychological shock and not thinking completely rational. He most likely was speaking from a fragile, hurt, scared and angry place.
There is nothing rational about what happened today, so how would you expect rational statements by those who witnessed it?
How far would you go to eradicate lyme?
As a former marathon runner and someone who has run Boston this hits a tender spot. I had friends who ran the race and was terrified till I heard from them.

Wow, some of the comments on here feel very insensitive to me. Perhaps it is just the runner in me..I don't know.
I agree with triathlongals comments. Think of the things we say and suggest in our quest to eradicate lyme disease and how others might interperet those statements.
People were killed and lives changed forever. Imagine the mother whose two sons lost their legs. No place for "but geez".

i am not insensitive to the pain and suffering that this has caused. i know lots of runners and how they feel.
i was merely reporting what a man from california said in an interview and that he was deadly serious about the ban.
people should step back and refrain from doing any interviews until this is settled and we find out who did it and why.
again, i apologize if i offended anyone and appear to be insensitive.

randibear; You did not just report, you gave your opinion on his statements - which in all fairness you are entitled to do.
Just because you know runners does not necessarily mean you know how they feel. I am a runner and still as such could not imagine what it must be like for those at Boston.
I think people need to have their voices heard, even if what they say is not rational. Part of the healing process for people and IMO we should be tolerant.

i don't see how stating his opinion and my belief that banning pressure cookers is off the wall is intolerant.
he's entitled to his opinion but now is kind of a crazy time to be demanding that pressure cookers be banned.
i disagree with your statements that i don't know how runners feel. while my friends are not in the marathon they have stated their opinions on the horrors the boston marathon has endured and the tragedies the runners have suffered. i feel for them and for their families.
i'm sorry you feel i was intolerant of the situation but you're wrong.
everyone on here knows what i meant and i was not being cruel or insensitive.
i'll politely drop out of this discussion.

Any one who has had family serve in Irag or Afghanistan know that weapons and bombs can be made out of anything.
I too have family in Boston. If someone wants to be a terrorist, they will find a way.
My heart goes out to all who were there through this terrible ordeal.

I also don't think anyone was being intolerant, runner or not. You don't have to be a runner to be completely horrified by what happened in Boston.
This is yet another attack on our country by a terrorist. And once again, our whole country grieves the loss of life and limb.
What kind of person sits in his living room filling pressure cookers with shrapnel and nails in hopes of killing and maiming others?
It just goes to show that if someone is hellbent on harming others, he'll find a way as said previously, pressure cooker or not.
All we can do is pray for these victims. And pray that this madness stops.

I don't think the attack was against runners, but against our country...by a terrorist (either homegrown or otherwise).
It's just weird that it happened on tax day, in Boston, which was the site of the Boston Tea party over taxes.

lax mom, it occurred to me in passing that the attack happened on tax day, but I never even thought of the Boston Tea Party.
Makes you wonder about the motive and the person(s) behind it. Regardless, the whole situation is just heartbreaking.
Let's just hope and pray we and our children never witness anything like this again.
