I looked at the support group listings and did not find one listed for the state of North Carolina.Is there one around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, that anyone knows about?

There are also lyme yahoo groups for most states. You could join the NC one and ask your question there. Here is the link. But just checked it, and doesn't look very active.
