If you're reading this, you probably know why I'm going to be there...

Any thoughts on somewhere cheap but clean, preferably with kitchen privileges?

I know who you are going there. [Smile]

Residence Inn in Fishkill about 10 miles south has kitchens.

Hampton Inn, about 5 miles south in Poughkeepsie.

Marriott Courtyard, about 3 miles south in Poughkeepsie.

Hampton Inn has suites with microwaves but no stoves.

Don"t know about Marriott Courtyard.

Good Luck.

Holiday Inn Express Poughkeepsie is cheap, close.

If you stay there, don't stay on 1st floor. My room's carpet flooded from the pool during a storm.

I noticed if you book your hotel and car through a site like Orbitz, you practically get the rental car free.

Thanks, guys!

LAX -- tell me you aren't flying from LA to NY for medical care???

Have any of you stayed here / do any of you know anything about this place:

I wish I was in CA! I'm in the South. (in my case, the lax is for lacrosse) [Wink]

I haven't stayed there.

I have had a lot of success with booking my rooms on priceline. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which was fine and pretty close.

Best of luck!

I wish you were in LA too! I was picturing you there, in the nice weather...

Now I'll think, "Lacrosse", which is pretty cool too [Smile]

Read the reviews on tripadvisor first. Usually you can get a pretty good feel for the place by reading about recent guests' experiences. My husband is in the hotel industry & knows that tripadvisor is where you'll find honest, recent info about a place. (And photos!)

No suggestions on a place to stay, but just wanted to wish you good luck with your appointment (I know where you're going). :-)

We stayed at the Hampton Inn - Poughkeepsie. Very nice, offered free breakfast and was suite style. Also have a nice indoor pool and Jacuzzi for the aches/pains. About a 15 minute drive to the "man"

I stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Very clean and well kept - good price as well

Thanks for all the lovely support / good wishes, as well as suggestions [Smile]

Clearly, Holiday Inn Express is the clear winner (esp. with pain-countering pool!), BUT it's about $100/night, and this place is $65 / night, and is right across from the Roosevelt mansion, which would give me easy access for something interesting to do on my down time (without a car): http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g60801-d93224-Reviews-Golden_Manor_Motel-Hyde_Park_New_York.html

BUT BUT BUT, the reviews are _mixed_; some say nice and clean; one says, "Dirty carpets and stained ceiling tiles". The owner says I can have a fridge and microwave at no additional charge...

Any modifications to your suggestions, taking account that I'd like something to "do" in the country while I'm there?

What the h* is hotwire.com "Secret hotel" -- they won't tell you the name of it until _after_ you book??? Anyone done this? Sounds scary to me...

Just sent an inquiry here: http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g60801-d80027-Reviews-Costello_s_Guest_House-Hyde_Park_New_York.html

Anyone try here: http://alumnaehouse.vassar.edu/accommodations/index.html ?

BTW, make sure you always have cash for the bridge tolls. My husband and I took one wrong turn and ended up on a bridge. We had to stop at an ATM to get $ to cross back over.

The area is BEAUTIFUL!

My goal is to one day be well enough to walk across this:

What about staying in Fishkill? Found a great deal via. Orbitz --- thanks for the suggestions, LAX Mom!

LAX: Well, I SAW the walkway -- now I know why you said you hope to well enough one day to do it -- it is LONG! Even though I'm much improved from where I was, I couldn't do it now, either...unless I were to pitch a tent once I got to the other side, and had two picnics in each direction... [Wink]
