I had been giving my husband Bicillin injections without gloves every 3 days for a year. In February when I pulled the needle out I accidentally stabbed my finger with the needle. I bleed it and used alcohol. I thought that would take care of it.
In March I had flu like symptoms. By April, I wasn't well and my suspicions of Lyme led me to be tested by Igenex. In May I got my positive diagnosis for Lyme.
No one ever suggested wearing gloves to me. It never even crossed my mind. Please encourage loved ones giving injections to wear gloves. I sure wish I had.

Wearing sterile gloves will protect the patient from bacteria on your hands, but will not protect the nurse who stabs herself through the gloves.
I've read of nurses who got HIV that way.
I'm sorry that you have Lyme. It's possible you had it before the needle stab.

I guess anything is possible. I was symptom free before the stab. Then it was like a major change. Fever, chills, stiff neck, fatigue, ringing ears, tingling in shoulder and arms, itchy rash on my hands, and brain fog. Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Ugh.. but Carol is right. Gloves would not have helped.
Be sure to get tested for babesia too.
