Has anyone tried this scam on you? Got a call today from someone (phone ID said "Washington Call") who tried to tell me that they were from Windows and that my computer would crash if I did not make some changes.

I said, "How do I know this is not a scam?" Got a rather vague reply. They put me in touch with their "supervisor" who told me to click on the Windows icon and press "R" .. I said, "How is it that you know anything about MY computer?" He hung up! ...So... what was he trying to accomplish?

Exactly the reason for me to finally get rid of landline. The scammers everyday, 5-10 times a day.

I made my 2nd complaint, 1st on-line and 2nd by phone to FTC. The lady I spoke with said, we can do nothing to stop these calls.

These phone calls are generated from out of the US.
The low life people have even figured out how to make it appear as your area code, so you are more apt to answer their call.

Cell phone rules. I do not pick up unless I know who's calling. She advised to never pick up, because then you are flagged as a valid number to continue to call.

Us too, Pam. The only calls that come through our landline are scams and charities. And half the charities are scams.

Dumping the landline ASAP.

I guess I'll go back to not answering the land line. I do have caller ID.

Yes, I did find one the other day that said local call or something.. and it was NOT.

THANKS!!

Aint got a landline amd I still get those annoying calls. Anymore if I dont recognize the number, you better leave a message cause I dont answer and I'll put it on caller block.

We get telemarketer calls on our cell phones too.

One way that's suppose to make it stop is to ask the company to be put on the "no call" list when they call.

The last time we tried this, the person hung up on us!

I know.. being on the no call list isn't working!!

Ha! We got a call one time something like these calls - I told them my husband is a computer tech and he can take care of it! That shut him up!

Randi, I call blocked all their numbers on my landline. I was allowed 30 and filled it up fast.

All the scammers did was change their phone numbers. You can't beat the bad guys.

I need to figure out call block on my new cell phone.

Got the same call yesterday and have gotten several other times. My response was "When telemarketers and scammers call, my phone is automatically set to put a virus in THEIR system and phones"

He hung up fast!! James Bond watch out. [lol] Gotta fight fire with fire

Another thing we use sometimes is google voice.

You can get a phone number through your gmail account. This can filter and block calls to your cell AND landline.

I use it when I order stuff online or other places that ask for a phone number and I don't want to give mine out.

It cuts down on some of the calls. I've gotten telemarketer messages to switch my phone plan on it to save money which I thought I were pretty funny since this service is free.

They were on my caller ID again today. I guess they think I'm pretty dumb. NOT!

I'm afraid to give Google my phone number.

That's what I'm experiencing now......don't want to give my phone number esp on line. I'm just going to play dumb and continue giving my old land line number.

After moving I got phone calls for 10 YEARS for the lady that had the # they gave to us. So I should be good for 10 yrs. lol

I will not give google or hot mail my phone number. They say it increases security. How dumb do they think I am?
