i was on oxycodone after the knee replacement in sept. i have been cutting back since getting out of rehab and took last pill friday. this is really hard. the fatigue is equal to lyme fatigue i have had in the past. i could get down on the floor and fall asleep anywhere anytime---i remember that from lyme
the restless legs all over my body are worse than i had with lyme
the muscle aches-bad.
my doctors will not get back to me on what to do. i have found on the net protocols of supps and vitamins that help.
i know i dont want to take the prescription meds that are supposed to help.
i am babying myself...letting myself do anything i want as long as it isnt taking the d--- pill that i know will make me feel better for a little while
this is awful 64 yo grammy...no recreational drug or alcohol history...
one thing i am trying to focus on is undertanding what it is like for others to go thru this-and be more understanding
and i am aware that in the last 2 weeks it has been on national news ans public radio about what a problem this is
it makes me wonder if the drug companies are again trying to sell there wares no matter what the cost

oh-the other thing is i read that one thing that is going on is adrenals are suppressed and some take otc adrenal support...i have cortef...have been off it for awhile. i wonder if it would help???
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
So sorry to hear, Kayak. It's amazing that it is so addictive so quickly. Maybe you could take a cortef every other day so you don't have to get off of it later. Or maybe it doesn't matter!!!
How long do you think it will take to get over it?

I wonder if LDN would help.

I'm so sorry --
I say yes, be kind and gentle with yourself- absolutely sleep all you want if you can,
eat all the good food you want, movies, TV--
But if you want to sleep, sleep! It will help it pass.

- Judie has an excellent suggestion about LDN, or actually even naltrexone at regular dose (but best is guided by a LL doctor and also probably best to start slow & low -- the low dose may well be enough.
At regular dose, it's purpose is to help with opiate withdrawal. It's just that someone figured out that low dose had other uses, too. -

They say day 2 and 3 are the worst. Tody is 3. Im using what was reccomended-alot is stuff i am on...the new stuff i am starting slow-just in case...
In rehab i took 80mg a day. Many online were taking 300. So i hope it will be over soon
Some online are still having problems months later

Uggh. So sorry! I went thru withdrawal for oxycodone when my discs slipped in my back 2 years ago. I remember it was 3-4 days of hell and then started to subside.
From weaning off meds, I've learned that the withdrawal messes with both adrenals and your central nervous system- so adrenal supplements might help but I can't speak about cortef specifically. Eleuthero root is what helped me and whatever detox you can do to help it move through your system.
Definitely baby yourself the next few days- opiate withdrawal is not fun! Posted by Carmen (Member # 42391) on :

I have absolutley no doubt. If doctors were not so brain washed they would be doing other methods of pain control that are available if only the FDA and the AMA and the physicians that follow their lead were not controlled by corporate interest. We are perpetually their victims until we decide we shall not be anymore.
I had a friend who was in a motorcycle accident. The injuries were severe including a compound fracture to the lower leg. Surgery did not go well. The drugs gave respiratory distress during surgery. They had to stop in the middle of it.
When they went in to do the surgery again it was done fully with the use of acupuncture. He was awake but given only a light hypnotic drug. They had to drill pins into his bones. He went through the surgery pain free and did not take on d.. pill. This occured only because the hospital and the doctors who worked there and controlled it were open minded and permitted those things that so threaten the establishment, and in essence the very medical establisment in its totality.

there is a process of addiction treatment that is highly effective, uses no drugs, but only detox and feeding the central nervous system with specific amino acids. There is less than 5% recitivism even with meth addicts. Dont remember the name right now. Several clinics in the US offer it. The program takes 5 to 10 days depending on the person.

So sorry you're going through this. I hope it's over soon!

Keep doing what you're doing LP, and stay away from the oxy.
And I agree with you-Big Pharma is probably quite happy to be peddling Oxy.
....customers for life...
It makes me very sad that someone can go into the hospital system and come out addicted.
(not you...I mean patients in general who are on oxy for pain)

That's sounds promising, kayak! ANY improvement is a very good sign!! Rest as needed, OK!?
What's really sad is that she was on the meds for such a brief period of time, Greta@
Keep us posted, LP!

I was tired yesterday but didnt have restless legs til late at night. So tired but it kept me from sleep. I took half cup of the calm and it settled me down enough to sleep and no potty problems!
Today tired. Did a few things. I m. Starving but too tired to fix something...i'll figure it out

hope tomorrow is even better.. minus all the other worries .. ugh

OMG, Kayak, this is unreal! Glad it's improving.
Wow, 80 mg sounds like A LOT to me, but then I can only take teensy doses of most things. Plus, you had major, painful surgery.
Yes, big pharma is truly evil. (Not just the meds themselves, how the co's get people addicted very happily).
Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :
Yes-in hosp most i could have was 10 mg every 4 hrs
This was on top of fentanal patch 25 mg
On line searching for help i see others may take 300 mg for yrs before trying to stop-not sure if that is ptescribed or illegal
Same today. Very fatigued and low stamina. Hard to sit up or type-getting more hooked on smaller devices
I needed half cup calm again and neurontin 600 to sleep
I am concerned also now about heat and swelling in surg knee-so hope it is not infected-did a lot at pt on tues
Also cant get rid if pain in calf muscle and left chest...not responding to anti inflams or reflux meds
I just wish this was over with...yesterday neurol listened to heart and carotids and all ok...

Probably illegal.
Oxy is very hard to get from pharmacies here. They have limited amounts in stock, and patients sign legal contracts with their docs about it being for personal use.
And the sad part is there's always someone needing a buck, selling them to folks anyways.
Makes me sad that prescription meds are now the drugs in demand from the dealers.
Big Pharma.

It seems there is a certain protocol for post surg
I began to cut down on my own as soon as i left hospital
I did feel the fear of maybe not being able to get what i need to control pain
But never had trouble getting it-i used much less than was prescribed for me
I had a nephew have lung cancer surg at 20. He ended up addicted. Very sad. Hes good now
A bil died from it. Big pharma on the prowl
I sense it is beginning to hurt ppl who have support cuz of recent news stories to stop using so much
Much like no good lyme docs til they get lyme themselves

I think doing the Cortef would help. None of the natural stuff helped my adrenals at all. Hydrocortisone gave me some energy again.
I, like you had no energy to get something to eat despite being VERY hungry. I'd want to lay down anywhere.
Now I have the energy to make it to bed. That's at bedtime now. Not right after getting up in the morning.
Be sure to have a doc to monitor as too little of a dose can make things worse. It's difficult to balance especially if there are thyroid issues.
Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :
Yeah im also thinking i really need to get more coq10. It has been resl impt for me for awhile. I ran out and havent had energy to order it and hate to buy the crappy kind at drug store...it costs almost as much as the good stuff
