I didn't know Gonzo well, but it's shocking and painful to lose him. I wondered what others think about having a remembrance section on Lymenet--not in the Flash Discussion, but in the more permanent parts of Lymenet?
The thread that began with LP telling of Gonzo's passing is beautiful. It's become a very moving memorial to him. Would it be a good idea to give it a permanent home in a remembrance section rather than letting it sink into the archives?

Great idea Anthro!
Gonzo was a real good LN friend to lots of us, and it would be great for him to have a special resting place on LN.

I don't see how it could be done unless I am missing something. Wouldn't we have to have another section on LN??
I know every time we talk about adding a new forum section, we are told that LN has no room for more.
Gonzo's info will always be here on Lymenet.
I tried to find the Lyme Memorial Project but I think it has been discontinued. The site I found was no longer in service.
There is bound to be a memorial list SOMEWHERE though.

We could consider adding a Memorial stickie at the top of General Support to honor those who have passed.
I tried to find the Lyme Memorial site too and couldn't - it was so well done, with bios, and lots of info -

Yes, we could do another stickie. That would work.

thats what i was thinking robin...i cant believe that memorial site is gone...wonder what happened

I suspect that someone got tired of paying for the website. Just a thought.

- No need for another "section" or forum to be created - there's already a dedicated & well-established thread here at LymeNet, including memorial posts from 2006 to current day - go to page 4 to post in memory of Gonzo.
This used to be in a collective set of "important links" with a "stickie" post at the top of "General" forum but that was deleted some time ago. So you just have to search by name.
It is still sad to see the Lyme Memorial Park Project site has gone missing. That site was excellent in many ways beyond the memorial pages, with lots of vital educational detail.
While we honor those whose lives have been cut short and that can also a sad reminder of how serious lyme / TBD can be . . . keep in mind that many do make it. Some share how:
Thank you for the obituary thread, Keebler. And thank you, Tincup, Snowflake, Melanie, and others who put it together in spite of the absolute heartbreak of those stories.
But Gonzo's thread is a different kind of memorial. It's about our relationship with him.It includes gifts: a poem, a photograph, and many prayers for him. We talk to him, and to each other.
Obituaries give me a sense of overwhelming individual aloneness--even when the people were clearly loved by their families. But Gonzo's thread gives a sense of his connection to this community.
It would be nice to be able to preserve the whole thread. Is there any way to do that?

- You say that ". . . But Gonzo's thread is a different kind of memorial. . . ." (end quote). Of course. As it should be.
Many entries on the Obituary thread post links to specific other threads that are similar to that for Gonzo. There are several linking to long other threads with life stories, photos, links, etc. where people can learn more about a particular person and share more intimate details than on a general thread.
Gonzo's thread will be preserved, just remember to save that specific link to your personal file. And post it in the memorial collection / obit. thread so it can always be referenced from there, too. -

Every thread is preserved. All you have to do is do a search. It will be there.
Does that help?

Was gonzo a new member? I have communicated with practically everyone, but can't remember speaking with gonzo and I regret it.
I read his past threads and he was such a beacon of hope for everyone else in the midst of his own battle.

I know there is a list because I believe they had it at the Lyme rally in DC last May. The person who used to keep it all got very ill from Lyme and that may have something to do with the website no longer being up. Just a thought. I could be way off on that.

Tutu, I think it is what it is. We must have a dedication area for those that lost the fight against Lyme Disease & Co-infections.
I don't see it as doom and gloom. It is just the severity of We Must Bring Lyme and Vector Borne Illnesses to the Headlines.
We no longer are willing to see others die because the Medical establishment is lyme illiterate. Not acceptable at all.
So attached to postie thing is the truth and reality. Thank you for what you do Tutu.

Pam--thank you for expressing this so well! I'd also view a dedication area as being about truth, acknowledgement, respect, and the wish for "never again," rather than doom and gloom.
But yes, it would be important to state in such an area that you CAN be cured of Lyme & co. And to balance it with success stories.
Tutu and Keebler, I meant whether his thread could be preserved in the "stickie." I know they're preserved in general.

We tend to get too many stickies. That is why I posted the link above, which contains many other links. If each of those were its own sticky, our current threads would begin on page 2.
