Or NJ blood suckers. I just found a tick attached to my dog - we JUST got back out on the trail this weekend after a winter of snow and ice. You have got to be kidding me.
Glad a have a lifetime stash of Doxy for her.... and for myself. Now totally paranoid - is this two day headache from a tick bite. Can never rest easy anymore with this stuff.
Every year its the same old song and dance.

A few years ago we put a tick in a baggie and sealed it. That critter lived for days and days without food, air, water. I am convinced they survive winters esp. since ppl have noted them on Christmas Trees.
I think we should consider that we can get infected/re-infected any time of the year.

So true.....I woke this morning with a wicked stiff neck and headache (though going through a dental issue right now)and right away worry I got bitten along with my dog.

When i put ticks in baggies-i have been doing it for years-i use amagnet and keep them on the fridge
Before i close the bag i squirt a bit of permethrin in-they die immediately
They wont live long without it if inside bag is dry...they need damp. In leaf litter under snow as insulation is perfect
My grass is sparse and soil is sandy so they arent happy in my lawn. Once i found a bunch in a newly delivered load of mulch and neughbors have picked them off dog in their yard near woods
When in nj i knew which places to walk and not walk to avoid them. I was in central nj near shore...between asbury and wall-but i traveled to jackson to ride...it was hot and sandy there too and never saw one.

Noooo...i cram them all into one bag...i start a new bag when i move. I moved a lot in the last few yrs. Ive got north nh ticks , south nh ticks, and central nj ticks

4 or 5. One only has 2 ticks. There dont seem to be any here but the dog brought afew home
Other bags have had over ten...but after a few yrs they dry up and fall apart

They guy who used to do my grass (after I got sick) sister got bit in NJ. She was not on grass, just crossed a wooded pine needle riddled floor. I guess there is good moisture there too.
I wonder how prevalent they are on beaches & sandy areas? Too dry you think?

Nope! Dig an inch down in the sand on a beach and there is always moist sand.
Also, lots of grass on the beach, and on the way to the beach.
Nesting birds...seagulls...sigh
Where there are birds, there will be ticks.

I saw tons by the beach. They were on very dry sand grass and they were just hanging out waiting to grab on. It was gross. I'm never going back there.

Im a beach and dog person. I am there a lot. Mostly maine and nh but also nj for two years
Once i was on acoastal island and dogs had to pee. I got them our the back...two schnauzers...within seconds of hitting the ground they were covered
Ihad stopped at a place indynes with lots of grass
I put them back in car and sprayed dogs and beds and cargo area they stayed in with permethrin
Also my sleeves,hat and shoes and shorts
I drove to parking area and stopped to comb dead ticks off dogs and sweep them out of car
Inevwr saw any when we got home but was always careful from then on
