4.8 ?? That's not that big.

We were there a year after the big quake in '68. It was kinda scary even then to see the damage.

Where did you see info on a volcano? I know they have geysers. Never heard of a volcano there??

Biggest quake I know of around Yellowstone is the one in 1959: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1959_Yellowstone_earthquake

OH... I was there in '58 and then again in '68. I do remember now that there was one after we were there the first time.

We got lucky TWICE!

Razzle.. We got to see the house that fell in the water. I remember that now! Also saw the roads that were broken up. Thanks for the link!

Yes that super volcano freaks me out sometimes.

Hope it's just rumbling, Maddog.

I remember when Mount St Helens erupted, we had ash all the way to South Texas... and that was even farther away.

I was out there in yellowstone at the Norris geyser basin, watching Echiness geyser in 1991.

http://www.nps.gov/yell/photosmultimedia/norris-tour-echinus-geyser.htm

Steamboat geiser started erupting,it only erupts like one time every 9 years. It is the worlds tallest geiser.I got to see it from 40 feet away on the board walk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steamboat_Geyser

The ground was shaking there was rocks the size of silver dollars flying out,and lots of sand and milky colored water. A older lady invited me to stand under her umbrella with her and watch it. I took her up on it.

The ranger came running down he was jumping up and down while saying (I have been here for 10 years and never got to see this!!!!!)Whoopie, yahoo,WOW!! He said!!!

CHANCE THING OF A LIFETIME !!!!

OH man. I so wanted to see Steamboat!! Humongous. Do you remember seeing Grand Geyser? I loved that one more than Old Faithful.

We waited for it twice. Took a 3-4 hour wait each time. It erupted for a full 25 minutes.

I found the GRAND!!

Yellowstone is one of the largest volcanos on a continent. If it fully went off life as we know it in the northern hemisphere as we know it would end. Thats why i decided it didnt matter if I lived near it or not. Right now Im about 175 miles. You wouldnt do any better if you were in Salt Lake or Phoenix.

New findings on the supervolcano below Yellowstone National Park don’t necessarily spell doom and gloom as many believe. Instead, it gives scientists new insight into the origins of the famous park and offers new clues about the formation of mountain ranges and park ecology.

Simply put, the larger-than-expected dimensions of Caldera don’t mean it carries a larger punch or presents an imminent eruption.

Current seismic records show that the super-sized volcano in Yellowstone, should it erupt today, would indeed be catastrophic.

The previous event eons ago left plumes of smoke and ash in the atmosphere, which is what scientists believe led to dinosaur extinction.

With the supervolcano beneath Yellowstone National Park erupting on a cycle of once every 700,000 years, experts believe the dormant volcano is due to blow 40,000 years from today.

Been hearing about it for a long time.

guess not much to worry about cause we are toast if it blows hard.

Keep it under control for me Maddog.
