Very nice that they retrieved the dogs and got them treated. What about all the people in NY in nearly that same situation?
Come to think of it, the owner probably has lyme too and that is why the dogs were neglected. Did anyone bother to check on the condition of the owner????? Will he be taken to a doctor and given treatment? Don't hold your breath. -----------------------------------------------
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man is facing eight counts of animal cruelty charges after investigators say they discovered seven neglected adult pit bulls and one puppy living outdoors and covered in feces.
Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross says Saturday that some of Harry Tommy Patrick's dogs were suffering from Lyme disease, anemia and had ear infections. He says others had sores on their paws which were caked in excrement.
He says one investigator described the pen where the dogs were recovered Thursday in Central Islip (EYE'-slihp) as smelling like a cesspool.
It wasn't immediately clear if Patrick had an attorney. A message left for the 53-year-old Long Island man wasn't returned Saturday.
Gross says the dogs were treated by veterinarians. He says they're now at an animal shelter.

Yup - absolutely. My vet is what I would call a LLDVM. My golden retriever has what we figure is chronic lyme/anaplasmosis.
She is on a lifetime of doxy which we pulse and put her on full time when she gets symptomatic.
Never a problem getting doxy from my vet for her. No questions just solutions and it is mind bending that she can get treatment better and faster then most humans.
Don't get me wrong I love her till forever and would give her my doxy if I had to but really......vets are more lyme literate then your average PCP idiot.
This are really screwed up these days....

Check this blog post of a family with Lyme, and yes their dog gets treated better then them!
I have 4 rescue dogs and all are infected with different combinations of lyme, ehrlichia, anaplasma and RMSF (that we know of, may be others of course).
It's obvious to me that they need continued doxy, but I haven't found a vet that agrees with long-term antibiotics. I just buy it on line and continue their treatment.
BTW - if you have cats, you may want to test them also.
Mine are strictly indoor cats, but still tested positive for lyme and ehrlichia.
Their mom was a trailer park tramp that had litter after litter, guess they caught it from her.
I feel like my pets saved my life! If I hadn't adopted infected pets, I'd probably still be running from doctor to doctor, getting unnecessary CT scans etc., and still not know what's wrong with me!
