So I just finished watching the sequel to Under Our Skin - UOS 2 (Emergence). In the movie Alan MacDonald talks about his diagnosis of frontal lobe dementia a few years ago.

He says he was told it would be fatal and irreversible. He got rid of all his scientific equipment and was ready for the big fadeout.

He said that because of all the work he had done on borrelia, he got tested for Lyme and it was negative.

Then miraculously, the condition reversed itself and he was back to normal.

Perhaps this has been talked about before, but I missed it. The nagging question I have is: Did he treat with abx just in case he did have Bb? Is that the reason he recovered? Is he not talking about this?

He may have also said the test was negative in that - it could have been wrong. But he left a lot quiet in all that. It could have been a much longer segment were all the questions answered and the film might not have worked out to have shifted there.

But I came away wondering if he just was not so emphatic himself as to say -- BUT the test could have been WRONG!

Others in the film did say that, just not specific to his case.

I remember being told he died and was so happy (but confused) when he started presenting again at conferences

I know others thought he had died too

And i have never heard explanation of it all

Now thinking about it more, he MUST have gone on antibiotics. How could he NOT? Who knows better than he how inaccurate Lyme serology is. Who knows better than he about the link between dementia and Bb. Of course he went on abx, and the dementia RESOLVED.

Perhaps the "reveal" will come at some future date when appropriate. I agree putting it in the movie now would have been a bombshell, and would have dominated the entire film.

Has he given us hints as to the possibility of acquiring bb through contact transmission through his experience?

It was none of the above, although I find it hard to believe. I am not sure that I am at liberty to speak about what it was, although he didn't seem to be hiding it when he told me.

Inside, however, I couldn't believe that the cause wasn't really TBD's. But, no, he wasn't treated with abx.

Sorry to be cryptic; I'm just not sure it is ok to make what he told me public. I know, it's very mysterious, even with what he told me.

However, we can all be very, very grateful that he is better and very much "back in the saddle!!" He is a national treasure, heck, international treasure!!! Not that "the powers that be" believe that. Sigh

Nothing would surprise me. I have learned to keep some stuff private. Better for all of us
