....but I can't drink because I have lyme disease.
Don't smoke. Doing all the drugs I can stand for lyme.
Fed up with everything, especially the people I know, and maybe some of the ones I don't know too.
Can't sleep it off, because my sleep is lousy.
How does a person in this situation drown their sorrows?
Pretty much left with nothing but loud music.

Sorry - I don't know much about which loud music to recommend you listen to, since I usually cover my ears when it happens...
Poppy, you are a good activist - one suggestion I have - to put your attention on doing activist things - I find that it helps to get my mind off of lugubrious feelings in me and put it elsewhere!
For instance, Lyme awareness month is coming up - you could check around to see which papers you could be getting articles into for May. If you're up for that sort of thing.
Beyond that, I think it's good to find something you can enjoy and get into, whatever that may be for you...

Music has been keeping me alive.
I've been an activist for years but falling by the wayside now. Too much effort required just for living.

Can you take a weekend away somewhere?
I am planning a go away adult only weekend trip I can't really afford for the first time in oh, a decade!
Something to look forward to/ plan.

Any chance you can take an antibiotic break?? Once I got off of the abx, I just felt better and better.
I pray you can find something to look forward to each day.

Lymetoo is right!
I used to do tons of antibiotics just before an attempt on a mountain climb.
I would stop the ABX about 7 days before the attempt and some times the stoping would last long enough to climb a peak before the lyme came back.
Sling shot effect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was much younger then!!!!!!!!!

A lot of lymies cant deal with loud music...so at least you still have that
Im old...my go to loud music is janis joplin....i used to need her To Get psyced up to clean the house. My kids used to say "mommys going crazy again"
I had two sips of beer last week and paid for it for days

yes, I hear ya poppy. loud and clear.
I have been struggling with this too. I have given in to alcohol often the last few weeks. I went years without a drop and now all I want is to avoid reality.
even praying, which I used to do constantly , has become so hard to do. my brain is bad, but it does feel good on booze, but then the lymesheimers gets worse.
what to do , what to do.....
getting out is a good idea like everyone is saying if you are able to do that. and taking a break form meds is a great idea. I was so scared when I was thinking about going off abx. I mean like that feeling when you go up a gigantic rollercoaster hill and you sit at that top for a second right before you plundge down!
I had no idea what to expect, but I expected the worst, but the worst was not there. I felt better.
I am not sure what else to tell you since I am in same boat as you right now, except that I have hope it will pass for me and I try to live each day as the way it comes.
sometimes avoiding ALL THINGS LYME for a few days or more really helps. When I totally blank this from my head and focus on my art or cleaning or whatever I can do that day, then I feel a little better and more refreshed and then able to tackle the next really bad day when it comes along.
so , I guess I am on a permanant roller coaster! I never in a million thought I'd ever wish for just plain ol' days when not one thing interesting would happen! but here I am diong just that.
knowing other people feel like me really seems to help me. I hope you can find solace in lyme kindred. hugs to you.

Where would you like to go??

Hey Poppy,
I have the same issue from time to time and this may sound counterproductive but when I am in the totally down wish I had a beer everything seems terrible and all I want it a cuddle but even the dog is outside playing I give into it.
Now I don't mean giving up. What I mean is experience it, let that pain manifest and let it out. I usually find a movie about someone dealing with illness and make my dog cuddle on the couch with me while I sob for an hour and a half.
I used to suppress these feeling and found they would just overwhelm me eventually so I think it is healthier to experience your emotions.
It is ok to feel sad or angry or frustrated. You wouldn't suppress your emotions if they were joy or happiness. Just because we like them better doesn't mean the others aren't important too.
After I have cried it out or yelled it out or have sung it out I then do something that makes me happy like a trip or helping someone etc.
Coming to peace with this illness had been the hardest thing for me and once you do that doesn't mean you will never feel upset again.
Hint, after sad movie hit youtube for stupid things that make you laugh!!

JHaltmeyer, that is such a good point.
I do this automatically, but I never "think" about it so I forget how good crying can be for a person.
crying is one of the few ways a body gets rid of stress or excess energy. Other motions are shaking, sighing, laughing- I am trying to remember if there are more..... probably, or maybe that is it. I remember it is pretty basic.
here is a good read on emotions and where they come from and how to live with them: it is long but very interesting and informative
