I ran across some recipes that use hemp hearts to make protein bars.

Anybody here eaten hemp? It is not marijuana.

Manitoba foods makes a protein powder from hemp which interests me, since I don't eat dairy.

Let me know if you have tried this?

I went through a bag of Manitoba Harvest's Hemp Pro 70 protein powder. I thought it was pretty good as far as protein powders go... it mixes smoothly and tastes inoffensive. Digests very easily. Baked some muffins with it.

It was around $20 for 2 pounds when I got it. Undenatured whey protein concentrate can be gotten much cheaper, as well as pea protein powder especially on sale. I prefer the hemp protein to the pea, but at $40 or more for 2 lbs I'll pass.

Thanks, gz. I can't have whey, but I will look into pea protein.

May try the hemp. Of course, I will want the chocolate kind. [Big Grin]

Organic cocoa + stevia + xylitol + almond milk + protein is pretty yum. If you end up going with the pea letting it sit a few minutes after blending, then blend a tad more improves the consistency.

you mean like hemp in rope?

Yep, but hemp hearts are the seeds.

I found a recipe to make bars with coconut, almond butter, hemp hearts, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Sounds good to me.

Yes, I use hemp hearts for a lot of my food. I use it to make a seed cracker ( gluten free low carb) and various types of "bread." I have a bunch of recipes if you are interested. You can also soak overnight, blend it with water and freeze in an ice cube tray to use in smoothies.

we use it in our house. my daughter makes smoothies all the time. I make whoopie pies the other day and added some for extra protein. no one noticed. it can be a little sandy like grainy.

the smoothie stuff my kids use is Manitoba Harvest- chocolate flavor. it has palm sugar in it though.

it isn't really sweet though.

I have never used hemp in cooking.

Well, I read that it's used in making smoothies and that it contains useful properties. But I admit that I've never tasted it either. And you know, I don't want to try it, because I feel great without it. What I really want once a week is crispy chicken wings and hot fries. So I found a review of air fryers on https://www.foodieandtours.com/best-air-fryer-for-a-family-of-4/ , if you understand this, please advise me the best one.

I used to add hemp seeds to my smoothies. NO MORE SMOOTHIES FOR ME, THOUGH.

Hi Hiker! I use Nutiva hemp seed protein powder. It's pretty grainy and tastes grassy but I've only mixed it with almond milk and carrot juice. I don't know if it's the same as hemp hearts. Probably would be OK in a smoothie.

But I'm interested in making a smoothie with hemp. When I do this, I'll share my impressions. As for your question, I recommend that you look at the reviews of air fryers on YouTube and choose the most relevant option by 2020.

I've added hemp hearts to my husbands smoothie. Probably a tablespoon full per smoothie.

Alexa ... I just got rid of a small air fryer because it didn't cook evenly.

On top of that, it stunk because it contained Teflon. Smelled so toxic. I'm sure it was.
