Trying to eat healthier, but need snacks in between meals since I can't eat too much at once. Important to have protein too - but can't do the heavy almond/cashew bars - a little yes, but most of them are very nut-oriented.
Any recipes out there maybe with some dark choco/oats, etc?? thanks!!

I have made something called "friend bars"...unfortunately I've lost the recipe, but basically I use the food processor to chop:
almonds walnuts (any other nuts - but you can also avoid these if you don't want them!) dried fruits (I prefer dates and figs, but anything works)
then add coconut (shredded)
mix in: cocoa powder chocolate chips (or you can food-process a chocolate bar) oats almond flour, or barley flour, or some high-protein flour
a little bit of salt (electrolytes!)
honey peanut butter or other nut butter
Add the honey and nut butter last two until you have a mix that has a consistency you can form into bars.
They don't really harden or anything (I think with the original recipe I had they used to harden a bit, so I'm probably screwing something up).
I wrap them in saran wrap or wax paper, and store them in the fridge so they don't melt, then grab a couple for the day if I leave the house.
Sorry, this probably isn't that helpful because I can't remember the exact recipe, but I think you can pretty much chop up anything you like to eat and then make it stick together with good stuff like honey and nut butters and non-gluten flours.
In my search for the recipe I remember, I found this book:
I have a recipe similar to the one above that paleogal posted. PM me if you want it.
my friend with crohn disease gave it to me and has no grains.
you can modify it however you want/
I also make these yummy snack balls with honey or agave or whatever sweetener you like, nut butter of any kind, rice cereal and that is it , roll it in cocoa or cinnimon or whatever you like

Hi guys, thanks for the posts. Are we allowed to eat chocolate chips? I'm on abx (haha like everyone else here) and would rather not chance it with the sugar. Maybe dark chocolate?
