With all those bright, flashing and hot lights, all the noise . . . I don't see how anyone can read a card or make sense. Very easy to see how that could happen. Steve Harvey is such a nice man and a true champion for women. You could see how heartfelt his reaction.

One doctor explained how stress can cause literal tunnel vision when trying to read. Some things on a page are just not seen. Happens with road signs, too.

And the host does not get the card in advance. It's at the very last moment, no chance to rehearse saying it.

And then the countdown, the rush to fit in the ending before going to commercial, etc. I wished they could have just stopped, the host talked quietly to Ms. Colombia before the public announcement.

The time rush likely prevented that as they would have needed to grab the interpreter, etc. But, really, people should come before making sure it's all smooth for the TV timing.

I think she deserves some good to come her way over this but what a true class act in dipping down gracefully to have the crown removed. That she had the chance to exhibit such style may serve her in other ways.

Bet they change the card layout for next year. Separate cards, different letters / font / colors for each card.

Saw this last week and it really made an impression, too. If this does not stop "dumb blonde jokes" nothing will. She gives heart to that awful stereotype and propensity to rush to judgment.

I see how it might have happened. It's hard not to get a shot of the card just in most news sites home pages.

To the left, first line: 2nd runner up

next line: 1st runner up.

the winner was in a different place on the card, centered, lower. My eyes immediately fixed on the 2nd and 1st. The numerals just took my attention.

I can see how the brain may think, 1st is 1st PLACE, perhaps. No time to give it any thought. But he then just went to the winner . . . did not do the final runner up. Shades of Dyscalculia + Dyslexia?

I know this isn't funny now with emotions running high and feelings hurt, but given the comic genius of Steve Harvey, I wonder what humor he will see in this fiasco down the line. Just sayin [Cool] [Big Grin]

I think it would be cool to hire him again. The ratings would be huge!

"But despite it making waves all around the world, Miss Universe organiser Mark Shapiro says Harvey is more than welcome back next year.

"He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following," he said."

TC--I am sure he meant to call your name, so looks like he flubbed up twice. [Big Grin]
