The next full moon will occur on Monday, June 20, 2016. It is known as the Full Strawberry Moon and may look full a day before and after to the casual observer.
Monday is also the summer solstice, which marks the beginning of the season and a chance to soak in copious amounts of sunshine.
This year’s solstice will be extra special, as it will coincide with a full moon in a rare event that hasn’t been seen in nearly 70 years.
The solstice is celebrated by a variety of cultures worldwide. Every year, thousands gather at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England, to rejoice the prospect of sunny summer days.
Monday will also feature a full “Strawberry” moon — the name comes from the belief that strawberry-picking season is at its peak during this time of the year, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.
The last time such an alignment — the summer solstice and a full moon — occurred was in 1948, the Baltimore Sun reported, citing the Almanac.
Monday’s full moon, which is also called the Mead Moon or the Rose Moon, is the only night in the month when the moon is in the sky all evening long.
Normally, throughout the June month, the moon shares some time with the daytime sky, according to Sky & Telescope.

I went out to watch the moon tonight. VERY nice!!
Had a few friends join me. One brought their supper and a small card table cause they hadn't had a chance to eat supper yet.
Got to admit, it must have been rather goofy seeing us out there staring up at the sky!
But it was a beautiful night and the stars made the moon even more spectacular!
Still time if you haven't seen it yet!

I told my husband about it and he went and looked.
"It was a bright fully moon, but didn't resemble a strawberry..." LOL I explained about mid-strawberry picking time as it's name and he just said, "Oh, guess if we want strawberries we better get some in quick"...
He makes me laugh at the oddest things b/c he looks so serious!

Just ignore me. I just figured out how to quote someone without saying Six said.. "..."
Confession though. Moving from one post to another I lost the button to use, but then found it again.
A genius I am. Only took me 16 years to figure out how to do it!
