I always wanted a Harley with a Hack (sidecar) and Silver finally understood that I couldn't just pull a pin and launch her like a torpedo (anyone remember the scene in "Up In Smoke"?)!
Although I don't know if they sell elephant leathers cuz there isn't a deer or elk big enough for me to be decked out! Maybe moose?

Don lets do the Sturgis thing i can bring my BMW mountain bike,no kidding i got a Cannondale super V 500 like 20 years ago.
The truth is like a million years ago while crossing the country to wyoming in my 1968 chevy C10 i stumbled into Sturgis during the thingy.
I still have that truck!!!
I could hardly even get gas there and ,Have to pee? All the fire hydrants had a line like 300 doggies waiting.
No place to camp,i drove to devils tower and got a campsight because a Harley person had a family emergency and left.
I drove 1000 miles that day.
I woulden't take nothing for the expirience, part of my life.
I actually liked the sound of the bikes ,AT THAT TIME.
The sound has no place while trying to enjoy the natural environment in Yellowstone park or the Grand Tetons. or hiking any were in a natural environment.
In a city or bike rallye COOL SOUND!!!!!I love the thumping.
Every thing has a place but not to overlap others rights.

TC I am now snapping green beans. Like they are killing me.
I froze 27 quarts and ran out of freezer bags. i got 50 more bags and so far today used 5 more but . I got another 7 bags snapped and draining.
39 quart bags ,my fingers are sore.
LOOK OUT GREEN BEANS !!!!!!
Got to go run my trot lines!!

Six pounds...that IS big...especially since I catch mostly bluegills and pumpkin seeds, a lake trout here and there...never had catfish before tho.

Dont know if I ever told story of our first floats here.
Our dads were involved in the operation together,,,I and my 2 cousins were together someplace m0st every day.
We found a REAL old wooden dingy in the shed. It was so heavy the 3 of us could barely carry it.
One hot day we decided to float our little creek. We fished there a time or three and always thought it was a 20 feet deep abiss.
Found out the hard way that MOST of our creek wasnt deep enough to float our boat. Hard to get your ankles wet in places.
took us a long time to float down half mile of creek
After doing this a couple times we got real brave and float a couple more miles all the way to town.
BIG outing for some country boys,,,10 to 14 year olds as best remembered.
But boy that boat got heavy getting it up the creek bank.
VERY little if any current either. So we walked the boat as much as rode in it

MDog - the old folks in Loo-zee-ana that fished the Mississippi would bait their trot lines with - believe it or not - ivory soap! That was the standard and it caught catfish!
Give it a shot - who knows?

Don, I once read a article in a climbing magazine were ,some kids the same age put a rope across a canyon and mounted a canoe on the rope were they slid it across swinging in the wind.
TX i could give it a try i found that chicken gizzards are tuff enough to stay on the hook longer,and if left out a while get smelly and attract a lot of attention.
I got some to eat today ,I eat my bait quite a lot.
Chicken liver and gizzards and hearts are so good fried up.

And Maddog- I have THE answer to your problems. I do!
I haven't had this patented yet- maybe some day- but ALL the guys laughed at me when I invented it- and now a few years later they are all doing it too because it works!
I call it my "magic fingers"!
Hated to see bait wasted- especially soft crabs cause they are not as plentiful as they were and cost a small fortune these days.
And as guys would do, they would give me the mushy pieces of bait while they took the "prime pieces" to put on their own hooks. What a mess!
Anyhow- one day I took some latex gloves and cut the fingers out of them right up at the hand section, so the fingers would be as long as possible.
I'd stuff crumbly or mushy bait in the fingers, roll down the open end of the finger to cover it up and lay the filled pieces on a cookie sheet.
I'd then freeze them and when ready to go fishing I'd grab a few. They'd stay cold till they got in the water, so my hands didn't get so slimy, and the latex kept them secure on the hook.
And the fish loved them! I was catching more than everyone, making those big mean boys cry like little girls! HA!
I'd actually be able to catch several fish using one magic finger. Saves money on bait!
My "magic fingers" work for liver, gizzards, bread, worms, corn kernels, soft crabs, shrimp, whatever.
Of course I always tormented them saying I could out-catch all of them with just a piece of bologna from my sandwich and a broken cane pole. And I could.
THAT'S why I love to go fishing!

Balloons you say?? Well lemme tell you a bayou story from a Loo-zee-ana fisherman. Mind you, what I’m about to tell you is highly illegal and frowned upon by Fish and Game.
When fishing for schooling fish, especially speckled trout, when you catch the first one, you tie an inflated balloon through the fish’s gills and put it back in the water as quickly as possible.
The trout will rejoin the school and by following the floating balloon you can fish the rest of the school!
Again, highly illegal (but, according to the man on the radio show, very effective for a good day of fishin’!).

I think that chartruse would be great. I have to try some of this stuf this week end.
I can pack the balloons and I think ,the bait will slowly leak out. I can put a couple of treble hooks near the opening.

You'll certainly be the darling of the lake with those pretty colors.
May I suggest not purposely trying to punch holes in it until after you've tried it. That's what I immediately tried to do and it didn't go well.
Some times the holes will cause the ballon to rip apart and spill your guts out in your lap, or weaken it so you'll lose the whole thing when casting.
If you need to add small holes after trying it without them, certainly do. With my invention the guts slowly leak out the top near the hook which is what I want to happen.
I had to learn the hard way not to purposely rip it. And of course as a klutz I didn't always get the hook where I wanted it on the first try making holes without trying.
BTW- I'm not sure how balloon material, as compared to my magic fingers material, will hold up when punctured. Sometimes it is great with the fingers, sometimes a flop.
Bring plenty of bait in case you've got some flops in your future. At least till you become as skilled as I am with it. hehehe

We used to do 'set' lines here on the river for catfish all night.
We always had the best luck with 'green frogs'.
We had a wooden box on 4 sides. 4 short boards nailed or screwed together to make a foot square frame.
Then window screen over one side and 2 pieces of inner tube across the back side,,,overlapped
so you put your hand between the layers to catch a frog to bait the hook.
Any time we had rain enough to puddle in the drainage ditch we might find frogs. Also the 'ends' of culverts where a deeper hole washed from fast water,,, now stagnated.
We also used some grasshoppers in season,,,bigger the better.(Used the same box)You could see thru the screen to catch your bait.

For fishin' folk, especially those who go after bass, the old timers would use a crawfish. But not one who was "soft-shelled".
The bass wouldn't bite that kind. Maybe they just like the crunch?
MDog - have you thought about "noodling"? Just remember to be bare-chested to show off your "pecs" and "guns"
TC - Silver is doing well and taking good care of me. Always a cup of fresh coffee and a cup of cold water.

TX Here they like soft craws, bite like crazy on them. At at least the Rock Bass do.
Don I might catch a French lady with Frogs.
TC I might try a paper hole punch, would be about right.
