As many know, the price of Doxycycline sky-rocketed over the last year or two.
Two of the execs of the companies responsible for raising the price of Doxy and another drug have charges against them brought on by the Justice Department.
When I noticed the huge Doxy price increases back in 2014, I researched the problem and shared this information.
Doxy had suddenly jumped in price from about $25.00 to $45.00 per month to $1,555.40 per month in the USA- IF you could get it at all.
One Month of Doxycycline (150 mg. tab, 2 x day)
Doxy from India- $.31 per pill $18.60 per month
Doxy from Canada- $.58 per pill $34.80 per month
Doxy in the USA- $18.59 per pill $1,155.40 per month

GREED. GREED. GREED
This makes me sick to my stomach.
These ex executives think this is a victimless crime, as they are ripping off the pharmaceuticals companies.
But the pharmaceutical companies pass that cost onto the health insurance companies.
The health insurance companies pass that cost onto the working class by jacking up their premiums.
And what are the working poor folks that can't afford health insurance and therefore have to pay cash for their prescriptions ?
I speculate that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Is it such a stretch to think the quality of these drugs have been manipulated also ?
The dept. of justice is doing their job. Now the FDA needs to do theirs. The FDA has access to these companies manufacturing facilities.
Quality control needs to monitor and test the accuracy of the doxycycline and tetracycline powders in the supply.
Has anyone else questioned the effectiveness of doxy ?

First, every person associated with this loses their pension - every cent, every stock.
Second, they will continue to work for the company at minimum wage and be put on Medicaid until they reach the age for Medicare - and that is the only health insurance they are allowed to have.

It's about time they are going after these guys (and gals)!! It's criminal what they've been doing.
I have been concerned about the quality issue for years. Most of the meds are made in India and China, so who knows about the quality?! Neither country is exactly known for quality standards! That's another horrific situation.
One of my doctor's, who has been a well-known professor her whole life says that generics are allowed to be 30% under or over the amount of the primary ingredient (I think that's the right numbers), so that can be a huge spread. Plus, of course, the inactive ingredients can be different, which affects how the drug is metabolized.
She said that she sees a lot of side-effects with generics. But who can afford brand-name drugs, especially when insurance either refuses to give them to you, and charges you a lot, if they do? It's all so messed up.
