The nerve pain in my face, which is the primary symptom of all this immune stuff, decided to give me a break today. It doesn't happen often that the combination of infections, allergies, etc. that I carry all decide to calm down on the same day, but it happened today.

It was was a good day to be clear-headed. Today my wife and I celebrated being married 30 years. Thirty years ago today I stood in front of a preacher and said "I do" with a smile on my face and terror in my heart.

With my gut issues we couldn't go out to eat, but I was able to jump other romantic hurdles and give her a gag gift, some flowers, and a heartfelt card, for which she gave me romance points that can be cashed in at the time of our mutual choosing.

My marriage is the best thing in my life. It's also the biggest anti-Lyme agent in my life. As I watch my parents age, as I watch our own faces wrinkle and our bodies slow down, I know we won't last forever, but taking our time together for granted isn't a mistake I'm going to make.

I am a flawed person living a flawed life, but I know beauty when I see it, and I see it in my wife every day. Lucky me.
