Genetically Engineered Mosquitoes Released To Help Combat Zika Virus.

Plans are to release 666 million in all for the experimental phase. Target areas currently are Key West, Florida, Kentucky, California and New York.

There were only four Zika cases in USA in 2017.

Oxitec has inserted protein fragments into the mosquitoes from the herpes virus, E. coli bacteria, coral and cabbage looper moth into the insects.
