So, I haven't been on the forums for a while - kids and I have been doing much better with our LLMD but husband stopped treatment 5 years ago and now it seems like his mood issues have returned. I have been enabling him for years now because I didn't want to cause trouble and was glad that he was still with us and helping to take care of the kids.
Unfortunately, his irritability and outbursts around me have now extended to the kids. We are now at a turning point, since he refuses to acknowledge that it might be the lyme & bartonella again and won't go back for a re-evaluation.
On top of that, he is saying that for years he despises being around me and that I make him unhappy. While that may have been true years ago, I have reached a wonderful point in my recovery both physically and emotionally, and I have wonderful friendships and working relationships now that I did not have during my darkest times with my lyme disease.
My children have also been providing me with amazing support and confirmation that it isn't my fault what is happening and that it is all their father's fault.
Long story short, I have to protect myself and the kids now and am most likely going to pursue a divorce. He is just too volatile, won't even admit that his behavior has been "off" so even if he agreed to re-evaluation and treatment, he would probably stop the treatment anyway
(he says he didn't see any change when he was treated years ago - but the kids and I saw a huge change - he was so abusive that I was going to kick him out and he stopped being nasty after only 3 weeks of treatment and was able to go off his psych meds).
So I just don't think I can keep going on like this without any assurance that he would even stick with treatment.
So if anyone has any references for a lyme-literate divorce attorney who is licensed in New Jersey, I would be most grateful.

Please look around on the web for local Lyme support groups in your state/city/area. Contact them thru Facebook or their website. They are usually private groups.
Someone in your area will know a lawyer that has a family member, friend or even themselves that have dealt with this disease.
Don't spend too much time looking for Lyme literate before you just look for a recommended lawyer from friend or family.

So sorry. I can't imagine going through all that stress while dealing with a whole family of Lyme sufferers. Brutal.
The most dangerous time for a woman is during a breakup or a divorce. Take precautions;
Try contacting a S.S.I.D. Lawyer and ask for a referral for a divorce lawyer. I find social security lawyers to be quite brilliant. They need to know law and medicine. If they don't know Lyme, they will research it. Can't hurt and maybe they can you some good leads to pursue. Stay strong sister.
