--**--Yes, as you point out, if it hadn't a been for FDR (a DEMOCRAT, back when democrats were really democrats!...) we wouldn't even HAVE a social security propgram. And yes, several democrats weakened it substantially-- probably with the thought of ...'appeasing' the 'republicans' and their "burgeoning" corporate dictatorship...
