hi all!

we sure could use all your thoughts and prayers right now!

really bad all over iowa; continuous rains and FLOODING EVERYWHERE! worse than 1993 !!!

nationwide coverage should show you some.

des moines issued an evacuation of their 500 year flood plain area! horrible!

we had 1" of water in our basement last week; had them work on it friday and this past monday. fixed.

we don't live in LOW LYING AREAS....so many highways under way; so many TOTALLY GONE!

thanks everyone!

It sounds really bad there!

thanks tutu,

yes, i think it is since entire DOWNTOWN has been hit bad!

watching cnn before coming here, and they had live coverage of their 1 reporter WALKING thru CHEST HIGH waters. he commented police were not happy with him ... very dangerous.

i have a niece living somewhere in the city; i've never looked her up to figure out where she bought her home.

des moines' river has gone down 1 foot; thank goodness! thx for caring! [group hug] [kiss]

feel for all others in other states in the way of this avalenge of water!

I always heard"Never complain of rain on the plains"!!

And the old one,"Rain makes grain!!"

Thinking maybe somebody took this to excess tho.

never saw so many 'lakes' in strange places here either!!

Guy once complained it was raining too much, one sunday at church,,,we went into immediate drought,,,didnt rain again ALL summer!!

Hope things dry out and we get back to 'normal',whatever THAT is!! still--just don--

we generally only get HALF the rain you get,,,in THIS instance thats A-OK. wonder what Our year to date is?? PLUS the 112 inches we got last fall,,we arent used to that much rain either. week ago flooding everywhere, creeks are back to normal now,but another rain event would put them right back up.

water where water generally isnt all year!!

If anyone knows of any relief efforts for this area,

Could you please post them.

I received so much support following Katrina from people across the country.

Not from FEMA or Government for sure. [shake]

I'd love to be able to donate to this disaster.

Sending prayers. So devestating.

Takes so long to recover too.

Hugs,

Geneal

..geneal, how thoughtful of you; BUT that's the way you are anyway!! xox

well, i went to www.kcci.com which is CBS tv station that has covered this extensively, and spent 20 minutes going thru all their flood info.

i didn't see anything SPECIFIC to your request, so saw a phone no. and called; ended up being CITY OF DES MOINES HQ.

I told her what you wanted to do since Iowa sent 10-12 semis full of stuff to katrina victims 3 years ago; i took a car trunk full of stuff.

she told me this:

UNITED WAY charity has been providing things galore including buying of sand bags, etc.

*******************************************
Polk County of - United Way of Central Iowa
(515) 246-6500 ...did NOT show STREET ADDRESS!
Des Moines, IA 50307

Social Service & Welfare Organizations

http://yellowpages.kcci.com/Polk+County+of+-+United+Way+of+Central+Iowa.327670.109967086.home.html

***************************************

geneal, we have UNITED WAYS in majority of communities within IOWA; it's money that goes to and STAYS IN THE COUNTY !!

so that's my best suggestion!! if you need any more info; feel free to ask or PM me!!

thanks again for thinking of others during their deepest times of need! [group hug] [kiss]

geneal,

i have a little more info than before that was in our sunday newspaper.

www.unitedwaydm.org
**********************

THEY will have more info on their site MONDAY, 6-16. ********************************************

fyi, it was the JAYCEES OF IOWA
********************************
who organized the drive and brought 8-12 semis full of stuff to katrina vicitims.

i just tried finding a website for IOWA JAYCEES but without success.

again, thanks for your thoughts, prayers, and concerns for all iowans! [group hug] [kiss]

just heard my youngest bro. was deployed to help with flooding in iowa; unknown where! next sat. night they are having a reception for his son/new wife/new family on our family's century farm that he bought after dad died.

hope he'll be able to be home for it! we don't have many get togethers since our parents have both passed on....

his wife was saying in email, our niece in cedar rapids is without water/power but her new condo was NOT affected!

so many schools completely under water!!

where i live, the special olympics was held the weekend PRIOR or they would have been here for events where most were all under water!

Hope the dangers are soon over and the clean up can begin. It is always heart breaking to see so many without homes to come home to. My prayers go out to all involved.

Stay on the high ground Betty. lmt

lmt,

thank you for your thoughts, concerns, and prayers for ALL FLOOD VICTIMS/BUSINESSES and OTHER states too; saw some awful photos of illinois today!

heard on a local radio station that JAY LENO is giving 2 shows at $90/person for all money to go to CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA WHERE BUSINESSES ALL GOT HIT BAD!

they had a beautiful restored OLD, GRAND THEATRE, that my late mom and i toured 22-25 yrs. ago! wonder if that might have been an influence to jay! who knows?

just thankful he's doing this to raise funds to help those affected!!!

GOD BLESS YOY JAY LENO! 1 of his antique cars came thru my city 1 wk. ago but i missed seeing around 300 on exhibition traveling from coast to coast.

last weekend, it was 20 vintage 2-seater planes giving rides so they went over our house over and over for 3 days!!

it's a college university city and we do have a lot going on constantly and it takes me 10-15 minutes to get across traffic and that's hitting every RED light! [lol]
