Never, never ask how things could possibly get worse, because they will!

My husband called this afternoon and said he'd be late getting home. He had to clean out his desk because the company laid him off.

I just got an appointment with a LLMD, and now we have no insurance, and he has no job, no money coming in.

Of course, now the stress of this news is just kicking my panic symptoms into high gear (I consider the shortness of breath and chest tightness to be panic symptoms, since that's what the drs. keep telling me).

I'm trying to be strong, and to have faith, but it's just so hard. I feel like everything is going wrong!!!!!

Wow. I feel for you!! I really do! Most of us here have had financial problems at one time or another.

I hope you are able to weather the storm.

Ohh. What a blow!

The insurance MIGHT be active for a while under the same terms as when employed. Check out the severance package before canceling that appointment.

And, you have the right for COBRA for up to about 18 months - keeping the same policy but making payments for your coverage.

This might help:

Topic: So, what DO you do when you run out of money for treatment?

And, remember that things can change. Maybe something better will be on the horizon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know we'll get through; everyone else does.

There was no severance package. That's the kind of company he worked for. Bunch of jerks!

i'm so sorry to hear of your husband's job loss; not fair, and life is the pits! [toilet]

did you work before and have you filed or getting SSDI, disability insurance from ss?

did you work 5 years straight so you have 20 quarters worked to meet the MINIMUM to file?

if you are eligible but haven't filed, check out my newbie package link below, and use arrow to go to top where table of contents is.

also, print off/read the FINANCIAL BURDENS info compiled by melanie reber and many folks have added since she posted online.

around page 73-92 ok!
***********************

great ideas in there. best wishes to you/hubby. praying for god to help you thru this additional turmoil in your life as you battle lyme too.

may i also suggest you go to top of activism and read the obama transistion team wanting COMMENTS of what we want to see addressed in obama's first 3 months on the job.

find something about unemployment, etc. and tell them your story! and of fighting lyme expenses out of pocket too!

whichever 10 topics make it to obama, they stated he will read EVERY POST on those subject areas!

it's an opportunity to be heard by our new president to help turn around the economy. [group hug] [kiss]

Starfall1969,

By law his employer has to give you 18 months of insurance coverage if you fill out the proper paperwork and pay the monthly insurance premium.

I hope this helps and wish only the best.

My heart really goes out to you.

My husband's company has been having lay offs like crazy and we have been bracing, so although it hasn't happened to us YET, I definitely know the panic this causes in us when we are so sick and dependant on money to kick lyme.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Also was glad to read other's advice about the 18 months of insurance since I wasn't aware of that.

My fear is that the premiums would be so darn high and at this time, insurance isn't paying for my IV's anyway, but wouldn't want to go without coverage no matter what the situation.

Hang in there.

Cathy
