Dear Writers and Producers of PBS's kids show ``Caillou'',

I am curious about something. You must know thatyou have created a show and a character that kids love. After all, Caillou would not be known in every preschool home unless you had.

I'm wondering, though, if you intentionally created such a whining, obnoxious and annoying character

Do you sit in your office or behind your computer and gloat about that fact that, by the time we parents figure out how abrading his speech pattern and tone is, it will be too late?

Do you rejoice in causing us pain (trust me, my ears hurt), frustration and stress?

Does it make you happy to know that my 4 year old who is above average intelligence now talks like a whining baby?

Do you find enjoyment in the fact that her vocabulary (and possibly her number of brain cells) and terminology has likely been cut in half?

Does undermining all of the language skills I passed on to her seem fun to you? She spoke her first word at 8 months old, and I think your show has reverted her just about that far back.

Baby talk is not cute in a 4 or 5 year old. How old is the kid supposed to be anyway? Even my two year old talks better than him!

Why would you do this to us? What have we ever done to you?

My hope, prayer and fondest wish would be that every one of your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and neighbors kids would begin talking (and acting) like Caillou so that you have to hear it all. day. long. and wherever you go.

Sincerely,

a Mother with a tension headache from all the whiny baby talk

Better eliminate that one from your daughter's viewing list!!

Sounds awful.

This is one of those times when you get to make an "executive decision" as a parent. Change the channel. Four yo will throw a fit? Oh well. But if its altering your childs behavior id do it quickly and get the fit throwing out of the way. Good luck.

...I'm just a boy of four...each day I grow some more...

I agree completely, joyful!!! My ten year old son and I watched that a few times when he was 4 (maybe?), I found that kid ~and his dad~ so annoying!!!

I told him "This kid is annoying. I can't listen to this. We're not watching it anymore." (or some such words) You know, in that "mom voice" that means business. No questions asked.

(it even has a stupid, annoying song -that I STILL know the words to!)

I agree 1000%

If I had a little one, no way they are watching that show. It's like listening to fingernails raking down a chalkboard!
